Absolutely this occurs. There has been a lot of complaints about the "DD214 Availability Referral CONUS MOS CONVERSION" tactics used. I recall a lawsuit filed by a WVA. firm against DOD for the directed hiring preference organization.

Have you checked your states programs. Texas has a job site that lists jobs available by companies looking for vets.

After Vietnam, I worked in an electronics firm with an ex-Cambodian Special Forces guy. He was really nice, too...as long as you didn't startle him.

I almost forgot...of course you are. It is obvious from your posts. welcome to our still powerful voting voice Club, and Thank You, because for all I know, you saved my azz at some point. I try to remember that when meeting a Vet.

Oh yes. I did it all. Even drove to the office on the local base that processed me out. Went to “hire a veteran” events….. The only way to reach departing veterans is to buy space on one of the numerous “hire a vet” boards. And the space ain’t cheap… And the problem with that is it caters to veterans nationwide. Not just local veterans….. It has become a headhunting for profit institution.

I don't know if you realize it, but this kind of stuff is why young people tend to think conservatives lean towards bigotry.

Surely there are other conservatives here who don't believe homosexuality is a result of mental illness. Anyone?

I have had two gay friends that have taken their own lives. I do not believe that being homosexual is a mental illness. But from my own experience, I do believe that homosexuality comes with some deep rooted baggage that causes people bigger problems in their lives.

Try Texas’ program. The last time I checked it was free and it was a web based service. Not all separating vets go home.

all the people I knew who committed suicide were straight and religious. talk about baggage.

I agree, but I'd say the source of that baggage and mental illness is people telling them they are sick and wrong for loving who they love.

Why go there? Frydaddy that doesn’t even remotely address the question. I lost two good friends that I cared about and had no earthy idea either of them were that deeply depressed. Don’t be a candy ass and make light of something like this.

It may very well be. They are gone and I cannot ask them. I wish I would have so I could have done something about it.

I really doubt if Yak has any medical creds as far as diagnosing a whole population.

How about the National Institute of Health (NIH)?

"Lay summary: At one time, homosexuality was considered to be mentally disordered. Since the 1970s, however, major medical associations in the U.S. have labeled homosexuality as a normal counterpart of heterosexuality. Those medical associations have proposed that their homosexuality-is-normal claim is based on “scientific evidence.” This article critically reviews that “scientific evidence” and finds that much of their literature does not support the claim that homosexuality is normal. This article suggests that instead of supporting their claim with scientific evidence, those major medical associations arbitrarily label homosexuality as normal."

I'm an American Legion (AL) member. An active AL Post near a military post/base can be a great resource.
