However. “As I was, so are you now. As I am now, so shall you be…” The pattern that is starting to emerge here is at the very least, worthy of closer examination. That is: Right-wing radio host goes all-in on fanatical Trump support Said host parrots that COVID-19 is a "hoax" Problem: why would you need a vaccine for a hoax? Solution: the vaccine is worse than COVID! Radio demagogue screeches this idiocy daily to dim-witted listeners Contracts COVID Reality of full-body pain & agony of slow strangulation Repents of being a gullible idiot who led his listeners to death Radio host dies Let’s check in on the current body count, shall we? 1. Marc Bernier, was a truly Awful Person. … and finally, his last & pinned Tweet, comparing getting vaccinated to Nazi Gas Chambers Current Status: Bernier was off the air as of Monday, August 2, stricken with Covid-19 at home. Sean Hannity’s syndicated show was airing in his place. On Saturday, August 8th, Bernier was hospitalized, according to the WNDB station manager, who described Bernier as “anti-vaccine.” And that appears to be the last word on his status: Dick Farrel, right-wing screamer & Newsmax host: Went all-in for Trump: Drank the Kool-Aid Current Status: Phil Valentine was a performatively awful person: Mocked the vaccine: And then: Mr. Valentine scoffed at the need for vaccines, writing on his blog that his chances of dying from the virus, should he become infected, were “way less than one percent.” He announced his Covid-19 diagnosis on July 11 and pledged to return to his show within a day or two. “Unfortunately for the haters out there, it looks like I’m going to make it,” he wrote. “Interesting experience. I’ll have to fill you in when I come back on the air. I’m hoping that will be tomorrow, but I may take a day off just as a precaution.” Less than two weeks later, his radio station, 99.7 WTN, announced that the Nashville host was hospitalized “in very serious condition, suffering from Covid pneumonia.” The statement said Mr. Valentine had had a change of heart and urged others to get a vaccine. I think there is going to be a lot of deaths in the next couple of months. COVID is not done with us. These people are just notable statistics.
I think this Delta strain is more contagious than the original strain. I have two vaccinated friends down with it currently.
Your realism in this matter is appreciated MD. Yeah, hope your friends come through this OK and keep taking care of your daughter. You know, I actually think about her and your love for her. No prayers here but you and yours merit my thoughts.
My opinion is that everyone who can be vaccinated should do so, but voluntarily. This is America after all, and vaccination should not be compulsory.
If COVID-19 were like wearing a seatbelt or helmet, or not eating horse dewormer, or not playing Russian roulette, then I'm way past the point of caring if people want to intentionally kill themselves. With something as boneheadedly stupid as not protecting yourself and your neighbors from a global pandemic out of spite and tribalism, I'd practically encourage it. But it's not. Even from a purely selfish standpoint, if you're fully vaccinated, not immunocompromised, and careful, you benefit from everybody being vaccinated, and suffer--potentially greatly--from all those willfully and aggressively unvaccinated jerks. Forget their kids, or the immunocompromised, or those with vulnerable medical conditions, or suffering healthcare workers who don't deserve the lot they've been dealt. Think purely of yourself and in purely selfish terms. It's as simple as this: If everybody is vaccinated, you have no risk of breakthrough cases--even relatively mild ones that are not dangerous but are still miserable--you don't need to worry about showing up at the ER with some completely treatable and COVID-unrelated condition and dying because the medical system was overwhelmed, and you don't need to worry about unvaccinated people breeding a variant that will make your vaccine less effective.
That post is very unlike you FD, in that it is directly relevant and cogent. If those are your thoughts expressed in your own words, it's the very first time that you've impressed me, and Kudos for that. If you can keep putting your energy into posts like that, I'll continue taking you more seriously.
So you want people to have freedom without the inconvenience of responsibility. I am unsurprised. This is so you.
I remember buying my first car and having the option of buying the optional seatbelts….. I remember riding bikes with my girl not too many years ago and the neighbors giving me the stink eye because we didn’t have helmets. Bike helmets are something I wouldn’t have dreamed of when I was a kid. Now the fact is, we have allowed our personal decision making freedoms to be slowly legislated away from us. That is just a fact. I too think people that choose to not vaccinate are fools. I also think people that choose to not wear seatbelts are fools. I was a former smoker and now think that people that choose to smoke are fools…… But this is still America and given that we are so up in arms with each other, I am not surprised that some have chosen to draw a line in the sand.
you should bear the responsibility. your insurance shouldn't cover smoking related illness or injury from not wearing seatbelts or a helmet.
Actually, it was the insurance companies that spurred the seatbelt legislation and a whole host of other safety measures that we take for granted these days. It is one of the few advantages to insurance I have touted over the years. Again, you don't have the freedom to do anything you want to do just because you call it a freedom. Why do we have traffic laws? Why do we vaccinate our children against polio, Hepatitis, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella? Freedom goes hand-in-hand with responsibility. Something the Right wing in this country can't seem to understand when it comes to things they simply don't want to do. This isn't a difficult concept for most of us. We know why we all drive on the right side of the road, sober, with our eyes wide open. Because the consequences of not doing those things is detrimental to other people in society. Why doers the Right have such a difficult time grasping this?
It's okay to screw around, get pregnant. and kill a fetus. "You can't tell me what to do with my body". Hypocrites!
How are mask mandates even possible? In order to enforce a mandate, they would have to prove a person had the COVID-19 (or any other) virus at the time in question and that they actually infected someone else (the aggrieved party). This is why government doesn't impose a mask mandate. They "recommend"...then threaten to withdraw licensing/permits for any business that doesn't enforce it for them. The next Congress needs to fix this. That extends beyond the mandate for licensing/permitting.
