But what’s truly incredible, according to genetic analyses, is that the same novel strain of flu first introduced in 1918 appears to be the direct ancestor of every seasonal and pandemic flu we’ve had over the past century.

“You can still find the genetic traces of the 1918 virus in the seasonal flus that circulate today,” says Taubenberger. “Every single human infection with influenza A in the past 102 years is derived from that one introduction of the 1918 flu.”

When COVID first reached the U.S., it sounded like it was something that needed to run its course and we needed "15 days to slow the spread"...to prepare facilities and therapeutics. A vaccine wasn't even thought be a possibility in less than 5 years. Now that everything is in place, we have three (3) effective vaccines, and a variety of therapeutics...why don't we want to let it run its course? Are all these extraordinary measures only making matters worse by creating other Public Health problems? Government and healthcare don't mix.

I wish that using the 1918 Flu as a comparison to emphasize a point would change it to 1915, since it was the start of the perfect storm of 3 strains that married, and the strains have had a lot of grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. It is not unique in any manner. It is just nature doing what nature does.

As to the extreme poverty, this is the kind of disingenuous attention headlines that are irritating.
Extreme poverty vs. poverty is a construct that is what the UN says it is, and the UN uses data points from the World Bank.
Some conveniently left out facts: 80% of the world population lives off $30/day.

The population in 2001 was 6.3 billion. The population in 2020 was 7.8 billion. What the hell did anybody at the UN and the World Bank think was going to happen? No problem, they now have the perfect storm to make us feel guilty: we made poor people poorer and made more people poor because we didn't care about CV19 because we are non-caring overeaters.

The UN changed the definition of the poverty line. In 2015 The UN revised the poverty line downward. What they didn't do, was adjust it for consumption levels vs. population increase. This would equate to an international poverty line, to be sure, however, poverty does not cause population increase. It is the other way around.

The World Bank could help, by selling it's incredible plush offices and land and beautiful international acclaimed artistic buildings it owns, and feed people if it cares so much about poverty. Then they could stop making bogus loans to despotic and criminal and graft controlled governments, and then constantly try to blame the U.S. for being cheapskates and not doing enough.

Maybe the World Bank can start by selling their D.C. digs, and dismissing all their lobbyists that are on a continuous tour of the halls of Congress.

The World Bank has one goal: To be self-serving, with the biggest Monopoly Piggy Bank growth in history, filled by the efforts of others. I am not impressed by their sincere insincerity. It has been their playbook my entire life, it seems, and when they need more play money, they come up with another statistic increase that serves their operation.

CV19 was the best thing that happened to the World Bank as a give me more money campaign, and they are adept at taking advantage of it.

 

Politicians are ballooning this "crisis" for political gain. We The People need to establish better boundaries for our politicians...a special judicial process to hold politicians to account. Politicians have placed themselves above the law...and that needs to end so stupid, crooked people (Kamala Harris) aren't attracted to the profession.

It's an interesting political strategy the GOP are embarking on, letting their constituents die and have permanent health problems in order to make the Democratic president look bad for a little while. Let's see how it plays out for them.
