The Comanche Wheel should have been instituted a week ago when the situation was developing to the level we are now experiencing. It would have been a wonderful opportunity for an appropriate conclusion. Full Disclosure: I am not the Theater Commander.
Seems fitting that the most powerful nation on earth is bowing to terrorists demands. Quite fitting considering our pride as Americans has been shelved.
Describing the present event of capitulation as bowing, is an insult to the original purpose of this ancient Asian art of Respect.
Just an "educated" guess. What's your prediction for August 31st...it's just a week away. You have opinions on everything else...what's your opinion of this?
It is an indisputable fact that we are the single most war-like country on the planet. Whether you look at it by number of wars we participate in/start, or the amount of money we spend on arms, or the number of arms we sell, or the size of our military, or the number of countries we have military bases in, or just about any metric, we come out as the most aggressive. Not bad for an isolated country with friendly neighbors. Sorry if this bothers you to admit that we just might have imperial intentions but admitting that you have a problem is the first step to solving it.
From all members that served the Nation in our aggressive pursuit of protecting the U.S., and our friends and allies, against Communist invasion, and despots torturing their citizens, and robber baron heads of State torturing their citizens, you are very welcome. You don't have to say Thank You to your fellow members that stood on the wall so you can express your opinion without fear of loss of your freedom. It is what we signed up for and did, and still do and still would do. See you at Christmas.....
FD has you bamboozled . . . he doesn't really have an opinion . . . all he's really got is Ctrl C and Ctrl V.
63% of US Veterans Support Afghanistan Withdrawal: Poll "Veterans know the cost of war, so it should come as no surprise that they strongly back President Biden's decision to end the war in Afghanistan." https://www.commondreams.org/news/2021/08/24/63-us-veterans-support-afghanistan-withdrawal-poll
Well, yeah…. Soldiers fight because they took an oath and wear the uniform. They don’t do it because they love the idea of putting their lives on the line or taking others lives. I spent three years on a hot firing pad in Germany with three live, very large nuclear missiles that I ran launch codes on numerous times. I never knew until the end if I were participating in a drill or if it was the real deal. I still have bad dreams of missiles going erect and lifting off. No way I wanted to be the guy that launched nuclear missiles against the iron curtain. However, I wore the uniform and was prepared to do so if I were called on to do it….. Soldiers don’t love to fight. Thank God they are brave enough to do so if the call comes down.
Yeah . . . The cited poll, conducted by VoteVets.org, almost certainly cherry-picked by soliciting responses from their membership. According to their website, “Started in 2006, VoteVets PAC and VoteVets Action Fund have been the home for progressive veterans, military families, and their civilian supporters for over 15 years. It is the first organization of its kind and the largest, with over one and a half million supporters in all 50 states. VoteVets uses public issue campaigns to relentlessly lift up the voices of veterans on matters of national security, veterans’ care, and everyday issues that affect the lives of those who served, and their families.” Almost certainly, their efforts at getting a representative sampling were limited to using convenient resources. If the respondents were limited to their membership, it’s pretty startling that 37% do not agree with VoteVets position on the withdrawal.
Question: Do you approve of ending involvement in Afghanistan? Answer: Yes. Question: Thank you... Answer: Hey, wait! Don't you want to hear my opinion on "HOW" we're doing it?!
Did you actually read the poll? This article insinuates that vets agree with hard fast date of Aug 31. This date was hard set today. The poll was conducted on the 20-21. The majority of Americans support the withdrawal but the overwhelming majority objects to the way this administration is conducting it.
Those of us that are true patriots, and had the distinct honor and privilege to serve this country, Never wish harm to any US citizen, including you!
More to the point...the Taliban has not cut off exit of any Afghan citizen. Any remaining American friends will likely be executed.
