We spent 20 years there. The original reason to invade was presumably to capture OBL and as a punitive strike against Afghanistan for his mere presence in their hinterlad, although zero Afghanis were 9/11 pilots. The pilots were mainly from Saudi Arabia, whom we did not invade.

Once there, the poison pill was set up. There was no significant opposition to the Taliban before we arrived and there was constant opposition to our presence and our puppet governments. They weren't going to turn into Luxemburg so whoever left would be set up for blame.

So...here's the situation...

Today is August 24th. There are thousands of very well equipped Taliban, Al Qaeda, and ISIS fighters (Thanks Biden!) all through and around Kabul. There are American citizens, not only in Kabul, but all around the country. There's no way the Taliban will let them get to the airport...they're hostages.

By this time next Tuesday (August 31st) rolls around, these fighters will begin attacking our troops at the Kabul airport, shooting rocket at our departing aircraft, and torturing our citizens en masse. THAT's why Biden isn't extending the withdrawal date...it's not his choice. By this time next Tuesday, the WH will declare victory and leave all our citizens behind..."exactly as planned".
