So what do you all think about Governors passing no mask mandates? Especially in the case of schools.

I've heard enough of the "I have rights" argument and frankly think it is beyond lame and stupid at this point. Governors telling schools they can NOT have mask mandates is even dumber and I wasn't sure that was possible.:(

These kids are our future. Sending them to slaughter is insane. These governors have blood on their hands IMHO.

Kids need school and they suffered enough last year. They need interaction and we almost had it but now some seem willing to throw that all away.
Is it for votes? If so, why in the hell would anyone in their right mind vote for such callous fools?

It is pretty hard to image why these Republican Governors are catering to the most extremist voices the Right Wing has to offer. Maybe they are simply worried about getting re-elected and don't mind if they have to sacrifice children in the process? It's as cynical a calculation as there is to be made. How do we produce politicians this motivated by their own self-interest? Children for God sake?

    It's funny.

The Slow Children sign applies to those who adamantly refuse to wear a mask.

Pressley Stutts has died. He was 64.
He retired from the Navy’s chaplain corp after 30 years.
He graduated from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He leaves behind a wife, children and grandchildren.
He was active in the South Carolina Tea Party wing of the Republican Party. He ran to be chair of the Republican Party in Greenville and won after a bitter fight.
There was no more of a fervent Donald Trump supporter than Pressley.
Pressley spent his last days exalting God after entering the hospital after getting the coronavirus.
His friends and loved ones describe him as a god-fearing loving patriot who served God with the zeal of a Christian Crusader.
He was none of those things.
He was an apostate. The god he served was the Father of Lies, Satan.
The world is now a better place without the vulgar hypocrisy of Pressley Stutts in it.
The greatest legacy a good man can leave is an endless trail of honesty. Pressley lied with every breath he took. He lied to his friends and family and showed them the utmost contempt because he thought they were dumb enough to believe his lies, which they were incidentally but that’s beside the point.
Pressley did a podcast with the Lin Wood to discuss all the fraud he discovered in South Carolina even though Trump won that state. He was one of the biggest proponents of the Big Lie in that state.
He touted Mike Lindell’s cyber symposium but that golden goose was laying coal. He was proud to know Mike and Trump but that wasn’t his most egregious offense which landed him in a lake of fire.
Pressley proudly posted a screen shot of a copy machine saying he had as many vaccination cards as anyone might want.
When Kamala Harris came through South Carolina trying to get people to get vaccinated, Pressley organized a protest where he claimed the rona was a big hoax. He proudly and stubbornly refused to wear a mask often telling others who did wear a mask that they were sheep.
Then the coronavirus found Pressley. He infected his wife. It’s not known who else he infected.
You can scroll through his feed and see the disease unfold. He decided to play a game of fuck around and find out. It killed him.
Though he was an ardent ‘Christian’, Pressley did not care much for the commandments or the deadly sins he committed. Pride, gluttony and bearing false witness against thy neighbor were done with great ease by him.
As the disease progressed, Pressley did not seek the sanctuary of the church to cure his covid-pneumonia, he instead went to a hospital and took up an ICU bed for weeks.
In his last post, Pressley lied to his friends and family saying that he himself decided to go on a ventilator instead of his doctors. Thousands upon thousands of prayers were sent up asking for healing. The Lord instead suffocated him to death like the other 630,000 Americans who have died from covid.
Untold others died because selfish cowards like Pressley took up an ICU bed in a full hospital who did not get a choice about whether they were seen or not. This is playing out all across the South right now.
There are no ICU beds for children in Alabama right now. Sick kids are dying because of the flat imbecility of scientific illiterates who believe the blood of Jesus protects them.
God sent scientists, doctors and physicians to work his miracles by creating a vaccine and the people who claim to be christians, ignored them. In the end, pride was Pressley’s deadly sin because he couldn’t see god’s miracle in the vaccine.
Instead he went running for the first hospital that would take him. His apostate prayers went unanswered.
Do not mourn the losses of Pressley Stutts and his ilk. Mourn for the people who die because evil people like him who don’t think enough of their fellow man to arrest the development of new variants that are causing unnecessary death in fellow Americans, including children.
I hope it’s hot enough where he is.

America is a nation founded on the notion of Freedom of Thought and Mutual Assent. Government is not a tool to be used by one group to impose their will on another. It all comes down to "intent". If a person's intent is to harm another, then I can see a role for government, but you have to show premeditation and injury to have any legal standing. In other words, you can't force anyone to wear a mask because there's a possibility (or even a probability) that an illness could spread. You can suggest, advise, and plead...but not force.

Edit: Yes, you can do anything you please, but to do so would mean an end to the American Experiment. If that's the goal, folks should be honest about their intentions and not hide behind a virus.

what about Typhoid Mary for example?

Typhoid Mary was a proven disease carrier, informed as such, and (knowing she was infected) continued to infect others. That's similar to an AIDS carrier who knows they are infected but continue to have sex with unknowing partners. Yes, in those cases, there's a role for government because those people are knowingly spreading a deadly disease to specific individuals...an assault.

You're comparing an asymptomatic, vaccinated person, living their life, to a person using their illness to assault others. I don't see the comparison. With vaccinations and therapeutics, COVID-19 isn't nearly as deadly as it was 18 months ago. Everyone is free to be vaccinated if they feel endangered. It's their "choice".

For anyone not familiar with Typhoid Mary (aka. Mary Mallon)...

you don't have to wear a mask in public. just when you enter an establishment that requires it, the same way you have to wear a shirt and shoes.

Equating jews wearing yellow stars with people wearing masks for public health is exactly why the far Right can't be taken seriously. It isn't about freedom or segregating certain populations, it's about public health. Unless you're a Right wing lunatic of course.

Why do you feel it's the responsibility of others to look out for you? That's your responsibility. If you feel threatened when you go out to eat, perhaps you should consider eating at home...your choice.

In public, during a deadly pandemic...You're God damn right I do and anyone that feels it is their right to infect me with a deadly disease is going to get me pretty angry. Your rights don't include the right to kill me. Sorry to just be informing you now. I assumed that you had at least two neurons. My mistake.

If you want to exercise your "freedoms" go live off of the grid outside of society. No one will bother you there. Try looking up the responsibility. With freedom comes responsibility.

    Remember....

You must have rights as a human but insisting on your rights without acknowledging your responsibilities isn't freedom, it's adolescence.
