That question is categorically unfair. If its supporters had the choice of not pouring in ever increasing amounts of money and / or assuming ever increasing amounts of debt to compensate for poor management, the Federal Government would have ceased to exist long ago.
the govt isn't there to protect us against big business. it isn't there to build infrastructure either evidently. I always say "Tax work, not wealth"
I cannot overstate….. As long as your side continues to buy into this “business is bad” pudding that the fed is spoon feeding everyone, the end game will not be something that you or I want. You thought Trumps power hunger was bad?… You ain’t seen nothing yet. We have already ceded far too much control to the government as it stands. And once the fed has control of something, it never releases its grip. And the truly disconcerting thing is somehow they seem to have convinced you guys that it is a good thing.
I’ve been out of pocket for a while but I will respond to many of the posts here and those that directly address what I have stated in other posts. Unfortunately, I only have a few minutes this afternoon and this happens to be a current hot conversation. The recent posts by those that believe the government is answer to all the problems are misguided... at best. @JoeNation said many corps have folded but the Government still exists (paraphrased). The government is not a business. Its original concept was to be limited and exist at the will of the people. I know I’m going to be called out for homework assignments, but those that disagree please read the Constitution and the Federalists papers. Government is not bound to make a profit and it produces nothing other than debt, 28.5 trillion currently. Please, if you disagree, show an example of something the Government actually produces that isn’t contracted to and provided by a private industry(s). Please give examples of something the gov does better than private industry. It’s not surprising when a private industry goes out of business when they mimic the government model.
Yeah, we do know that FD. Businesses grow when they are efficient. Governments grow when they’re not.
so why doe3s the GOP only care about the deficit when they are out of power? what government do you point to as your ideal, since you hate the liberal US?
Thanks for clearing that up. So in theory would you support a system where new businesses pay say 8%, most businesses do close to 15%, and then it scales up to mega, multi-national corporations paying closer to 50%?
Then why does everyone to the right of Hillary Clinton insist on comparing businesses to the Federal Government?
I think there’s something really important that you’re overlooking GW. The biggest reason major corporations pay so little in taxes is because they pay their shareholders before they pay Uncle Sam. That would be the likes of Warren Buffett, Carl Icahn, me, you, my dad, your dad, and everyone else invested in them directly and or indirectly. It is effectively we who pay the taxes on the majority of profits turned out by those major corporations because they reward their investors and largely turn their profits into our profits instead. They are at liberty to decide how much profit to pay to their investors, of course, but it seldom makes sense to retain any more earnings than are paid on retained shares, unless they have major expansion or M&A plans in the offing. When they do, they structure expenses associated with those activities to best minimize tax liabilities.
so there is no free market because of investors who can't be allowed to lose money? That's not Capitalism
Leave it to FD to try and steer off on that type of tangent. More simply put, for FD's benefit, regardless of the applicable tax rate, you can't force a business to pay more in taxes if it chooses instead to direct more of its profits to its infrastructure, people and shareholders.
Speaking personally, of course...... Here's the thing with you guys. You don't know what is best for me any more than I know what is best for you. So don't presume that you do please.
