So it's talking about people like white supremacists that is what divides us rather the white supremacists believing that they are superior to nonwhites that is truly the problem? Do I understand you correctly? Because that what it seems like you are saying. When has silence ever led to a solution. I get your discomfort with the topic, but maybe discomfort is a good reason to just ignore a problem? You're literally calling the discussion of the issue the problem. I think you're wrong. I think we can talk with civility for dang sure but to just not have the conversation because some folks will be uncomfortable I just can't agree with.
No, Joe….. It isn’t that…. Rather it’s that the discussion is keeping people pissed off…. I’ll elaborate later. I gotta help with homework…. If I can still figure out fourth grade math…
So rather than tell people things they don't want to hear and that also piss them off, you suggest.....What?
If I told my daughter day in and day out that she was underprivileged, trampled on and did not have the same opportunities in life as me because of her skin color, Do you think she would be happy? Or be pissed off? And from that perspective, which of those two personalities has the better opportunity to succeed in this world? I know that I don’t hire pissed off people.
Not sure what that is supposed to convey? My question stands. What do you suggest we do if not talk about the problems?
I’ll get back tomorrow. I am still wondering how we are doing long division in boxes these days…. My brain is beyond repair this evening.
You're a little slow there JN. Mature adults don't work at McD's to limit their career potential. They work there because they have already failed to maximize their career potential. Huge difference, and one which you don't wish to acknowledge because it doesn't serve your agenda. Your statement that, " . . . they simply have no other options." rings terribly hollow. Everyone had many options before they whittled those down, one by one. Every decision about when to go on Twitter or start playing video games, or what events or parties to attend, instead of what homework assignments to struggle through was a choice, conscious or not, and one which impacted one's readiness to enter society as a productive contributor. Those left behind by poor choices were relegated to jobs at Mickie D's via the process of self-elimination. Just ask those who managed to rise to the top, despite attending the schools of the "underprivileged".
No, you don't see JN . . . it is a zero sum game, as you say, but everyone plays, and I've got nothing to do with the outcome of others. We all play out our futures against immediate gratification, where one almost invariably wins over the other. Our outcomes reflect our choices more than they reflect any other influence. Deny it if you wish, but that's how life works.
What do you mean, "finger wagging". If you mean pointing out attributes you disagree with on the opposing side, I'm not sure what can replace that kind of discourse. It certainly doesn't have to be done rudely and I apologize if I have come off that way sometimes. We do get worked up over these issues and lose our cool sometimes. We shouldn't but I recognize that some people can't control or don't want to control themselves. I think in some cases, maybe too many, some folks just let their emotions take over and fail to make cogent arguments. The "Gotcha crowd" I call them. It's more about their egos than the issues at some point. I guess all we can do is rise above it and keep trying.
Yeah, I missed you MD. As to your comment, "I rather wonder if this isn't all pre-planned so the fed can step up and save us once again thereby cementing their grasp on every aspect of our lives", I have wondered something a bit different. Mindful of Rahm Emanuel’s utterance, “Never let a good crisis go to waste”, I've jokingly wondered if this isn't some diabolical plot to bring private businesses to their knees in order to level the playing field between the workers and the work-nots . . . a step in the direction of making everyone as equal as possible . . . a social-engineering reset. The longer and more severely private enterprise is weakened by this administration’s retarded recovery, the more I am beginning to consider that once seemingly silly thought a reality.
The well heeled are those that have struggled to some degree to better themselves and have realized some degree of success in their lives only to then turn around and look down on people that haven't been as successful as themselves. In my opinion, all of their struggles and all of their of successes have cost them their ability to remember where they came from and all the people that helped them along their journey. In spite of their financial successes, they are the poorest people I know. They would do well to cast their money aside and return to the place they came from if only to regain their compassion. They will not do this because they cannot abide the crossing over to the place they have spent so much of their lives being ashamed of and despising. Most of all they cannot abide those that remind them of where they came from. I see many of these people on the radical conservative side. They are protected, defended, and supported in their beliefs by a fraternity of crony capitalists whose only mantra is more and more money. Money isn't inherently evil on it's own, it takes work to corrupt men's souls with the illusion of power that money promises and it must be cultivated by an intentional manipulation. The corruption is only complete when all traces of compassion, empathy, and a lack of tolerance for the poor, the true receptacles for scorn by those that once lived with little to call their own. Heaven awaits the rich man.
You don't know how wrong you are . . . this is not about not wanting to help those in need. It is about not wasting effort on those who don't want to help themselves. I am eager to help those who need help learning how to apply themselves to become self sufficient, and take the time trying to help them get there. Some are eager to learn, and they almost always succeed. Conversely, there are those who want to exit their present circumstances effortlessly, sort of like the kid who wants the homework completed without learning the lesson, and there seem to be many of those. They are beyond help because, once they've exhausted the assistance given them, they go right back to wanting more. That's not just a waste of time . . . it's depriving someone else, likely more worthy, of the same lesson. You have mis-branded the corruption. The corruption is only complete when all workers are burdened by work-nots on their backs.
