I think Rush was a little out there. I listened with my father in the car for a lot of my childhood, and it was bombastic but it is no surprise to me. I’m not surprised that the opposition didn’t like him. Of course they dislike him. In my world, I don’t expect liberal-thinkers to praise him or truly honor him. All I wish is that you leave those words in your head. What good does it do to attack such man at the end of someone’s life? It only infuriates people, the people that really did love and adore him. And that is division. If you truly hate 1/2 of the country because of party affiliation, no matter what side your on, that’s disappointing.
Credit where credit is due that a college dropout and former disc jockey could come up with a formula to squeeze untold millions from the rubes. But obviously the tradeoff is that he will be remembered as nothing but a racist blowhard.
If you would like my silence, the first thing I would ask myself is..., At what cost does my silence come? I have a pretty good idea what my silence does for those that genuinely respected, admired, or just passively supported him with their silence. They didn't speak up when he went too far, they didn't call him out. They may have disagreed with his views but never wanted to be seen as being complicit with the liberal-thinkers even while granting silent complicity to Limbaugh's views at the same time. Those liberal-thinkers that did not remain silent were literally the only check on Limbaugh's worst instincts. If you think he was bombastic with liberal-thinks being vocal about his views, you would have been shocked at what he could have aired had those liberal-thinkers not been there to challenge him. He pushed the tolerance of misogyny and racism to levels not seen since the 1950's. More tolerance for misogyny and racism are not views that we need more of in this country, in fact, they are views that we need less of in this country. Calling Limbaugh an Entertainer is like calling an Arsonist, The Heating Guy. What he did wasn't entertainment. It was divisive revenue generating escapade. And that is division.
