they say an armed society is a polite society. they lied. A dispute over a dog reportedly led to a shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, early Sunday morning that left eight people wounded and two suspected gunmen at large, authorities said. Eight adults were either struck or grazed by bullets, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The shooting occurred after a small group of people gathered in downtown around 1 a.m. and two men reportedly began arguing over a dog that was with one of them, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department told WKRN. The man with the dog allegedly pulled out a gun during the dispute, prompting a second man to leave and return a few minutes later with a gun, accompanied by several other men. The men exchanged gunfire, police said. The dog was also shot in its hip, and a bystander took it to an emergency veterinarian; the dog’s condition was unknown, Joseph Pleasant, a spokesman for the Nashville Fire Department, told HuffPost. Five people were transported to a local hospital’s emergency room for treatment. All were alert and able to speak with authorities during their transportation, Pleasant added. Police are still investigating the incident and are working to identify the two gunmen, according to multiple reports. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/nashville-shooting-dog-dispute_n_5fa86149c5b6f21920dd4082
One idiot with a firearm makes big news when things go wrong. The better measure is how many good guys with a firearm put and end to a bad guy doing bad things. Sadly, that won’t make your news feed though.
We don't need guns in civil society. Guns only necessitate the illusion of the need for more and more guns. It reminds me of something Gandhi said. He said an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. A gun to defend against a gun makes the entire world armed and dangerous. We all know that easy access to guns in an uneducated society will only lead to more and more, deadlier and deadlier violence. You simply can't arm sensible people with guns without also arming crazy people with guns. There is no way to separate the two. The only solution is to remove guns from a civil society. Nothing else will solve this problem.
I don't disagree with your assessment. Thing is, at this point the cat is out of the bag. There used to be a popular saying, "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns". Or something to that effect...... I don't know if you ever watched Live PD when it was on. There was a motel that was featured on that program every week. I called it the Blue Door motel. Fact is, that motel is directly across the highway from my business. I have had wacked out people fall into my office door (quite literally). A month ago, there was a shooting in my parking lot. Two bad guys shooting up my neighbor, a towing business. After dark, the bad guys have the run of the streets where I work. I am well trained in firearm use and my office is well armed for my employees protection..... At this point, you cannot undo what has already been done the previous 250 years. I fully suspect that this administration will make it difficult to source ammunition. It happened under Obama's watch and I expect it will happen again. The affect of this action is that people like me who take the responsibility of owning firearms seriously and visit the firing range routinely will stop doing so. Yet another point in the bad guys favor. Limiting or eliminating firearms from legal ownership will do nothing more than empower the bad guys. You need to figure out how to eliminate the bad guys first. Then you can have my firearms.
Agreed. There is zero prospect of anything other than very limited restrictions on sales of some types of guns. It can be done; witness the restriction on full automatic long arms. A determined person with plenty of money can get one legally, but it's not a simple matter. Dark predictions that a Democratic administration would go full "gun grabber" were making the rounds before Obama was elected, and his election did have an effect, but not the one predicted-- The ammunition shortages during the Obama administration were not the result of any efforts by the administration to "make it difficult to source ammunition." I don't know if that's what you were implying, but the fact is that the shortages were caused by gun owners. Specifically some gun owners who believed the propaganda about "gun grabbing."
I do appreciate you setting that straight. Reading my post it certainly appeared I was leveling that accusation at the Obama administration. And quite frankly, during that period in time, I never quite knew what the source of the problem was. But I didn't go to the range much those years.
First of all I hope the dog is OK. It may have been the sanest being around. I live in Indiana but very near Chicago. We get Chicago news and it seems I see stories like this on a daily basis. Now where do a lot of those guns come from? Well just over the border in Indiana where it's real easy to buy them. Sad.
I disagree about psychedelics being harmless. If a person is mentally or emotionally unstable, an experience with a psychedelic can do serious damage to them, particularly in the wrong environment. I do agree that there are therapeutic uses for psychedelics, and the same person I describe who could be harmed could also be helped considerably by the same dose, in a good environment with an experienced therapist. In addition to decriminalizing most drugs that are often abused, the Oregon voters also voted to set up a program to allow psilocybin to be used in therapeutic environments as well as funding further research.
Generally yes, depending on definitions of abuse. Personally, I wouldn't consider using LSD once a week to be abuse, but others would assert that it is. Some would say that any use of LSD outside of an official research study is abuse.
