I don't think it's fair what happens afterwards, I think it's an unfortunate side effect. I also think it doesn't matter what he did, it's shameful that he was shot so many times at point blank. Luckily, he may still live, but the violence against him was completely out of line. They have tasers, sometimes batons, they could have tackled him. Instead the officer took the cowards way out. So yeah, people were mad. Did you watch the video?
Dear business person: The destruction of you life’s work was an “an unfortunate side effect” of the domestic disturbance than occurred earlier this evening. I hope that you understand. Best regards, @GeneWright
Doubling down on your mistake ... a great way to lose the election for you somnambulant candidate. I would like to spend the late summer and early fall in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. I grew up there, and it’s nice place for that time of year. However, the days of “front porch candidates” went out with William McKinley in 1896. Hundreds of Thousands of voters came to him. He just had to get up in the morning to campaign while Bryan traveled over 20,000 miles. I’ll post a button in honor of your candidate tomorrow.
Clearly you weren't going to be swayed. It's all good though. I'm having serious doubts you watched Biden's speech though. If you did, you could at least make some effort to criticize him on the content of it. I fully plan to watch Trump's capstone speech and break it down to the best of my ability.
Biden does not matter, and you know it. Why should I listen to Biden? He is a Hubert Humphrey retread who is there to fool those, who don’t follow politics. He is the Democrat firewall against the rest of the party. He is “moderate.” That is the only reason why he got the nomination. Except he is nothing than a Trojen Horse who is there to get Bernie Sanders, AOC and Nancy Pelosi in power. I will stick by my prediction. Biden is out within three months. If he is too fragile to campaign, he is most certainly too fragile to be President.
I think he matters, and he made a case for why he should be elected president. I think that's worth listening too. Which is why, even though I won't vote for him, I'll listen to Trump's argument on why he should be re-elected. But moving on, what kind of news media do you get your political information from? I'm curious what has instilled this fear and anger in you. Do you mind listing out your top 5 sources? If you have favorite commentary hosts, websites, channels, etc. I'd appreciate it.
I watch ABC and Fox News put I read news coverage on the Internet. In would like to know why you are so ignorant about what’s going on in America’s major cities. If you watch ABC News, I know why.
Where on the internet? I get my news from a variety of sources on Twitter and Reddit. But I like to back things up by looking at original documents or first-hand testimony. For instance, Portland is a very small area of protests with minimal damage to the city at large. I know this because I talk to residents and read testimony from people living there on how things are vs. how it's being portrayed. Would it surprise you to know the most disingenuous reporting consistently comes from Fox news? That's the consensus of Portland residents. The reddit community, r/Portland is comprised of 170,000 people, most of the contributors living in Portland.
Sorry GW, but I won't bother with Biden’s speech for two reasons . . . He has a nasty habit of claiming someone else’s words as his own, and If he doesn’t repeat words from a past speech, he’ll be reading from a script written by Sanders and company. Sadly, the legacy of the man convinced by his grandchildren to save our country will be little more than an abandoned marionette hanging from a leafless money tree.
Did you see the scenes of the Federal Courthouse where the building had been covered with spray painted graffiti? Did you see your “peaceful protesters” hitting the building with sledge hammers? How about aiming fireworks at the police? Do you see the fires they lit? Of course you didn’t see it because you don’t want to see it. The first big lie is that Antifa does not exist. The second big lie is the violent demonstrations didn’t amount to much. The third big lie is that the Democrats haven’t had much to do with them except that they have vocally supported them, so long as they did attack their houses. Your romantic notions about revolutionary activity clearly show your ignorance. You have said that you are weak in the humanities. You need to brush up on the histories of the French and Russian revolutions. The pattern was the old order was overthrown and replaced by people who were of a different social class. That is the hall mark of a true revolution. This was followed by a period of chaos where no one’s life was safe. Finally a dictator takes over and restores order, with more bloodshed. In the end the people, who were looking for change end up as bad or worse off then they were before. That’s where the United States is headed if you get what you want. In France, the dictator was Napoleon. In Russia it was Lenin and Stalin. You are probably misinformed enough to think that Lenin was a good guy. He wasn’t. The third true revolution in western European history was the British in the mid 1600s. The dictator in that case was Cromwell.
How about the American revolution? Taxation without representation? It was a class war, like they always are. I feel like you definitely would have sided with the British and hated incidents like the Boston tea party. And yes, I did see all that happened to the courthouse. What your overlooking is 2 things. 1. It's largely contained to the block or 2 of the courthouse and has calmed significantly since the feds left. 2. The feds shot first. Before any violent damage was done, rubber bullets and tear gas flew. To the point of this, how do you not see your being played? The feds directed by the Trump administration have been unduly aggressive and either shooting first or returning with disproportionate force. This is an obvious tactic to get people angry and force a conflict he can squash. Meanwhile he makes up boogeymen like Antifa to get people like you riled up. I mean, they haven't even formally labeled Antifa a domestic terrorist group. You need evidence to do that. Meanwhile, the government has labeled QAnon a domestic terrorism threat, and all Trump had to say about that was "I hear they like me." He's literally making up fake domestic terrorists and saying nice things about real domestic terrorist groups. I don't mean to get heated, but man this is frustrating. I'm sorry for what fox news did to you.
I mean it's not like you'd take one incident from decades ago and try to make a caricature out of it.
For @GeneWright Historians do not rate the American Revolution as a true revolution because it was a matter of upper-class Americans taking the place of upper-class British people in the leadership roles. That's part of the reason why things did not degenerate into chaos as it did in France and Russia. The American citizens did make life hell for many of the British who were Tories during the war. Many of them had to move Canada to avoid persecution, and most of them lost their real property. As for whom I would have supported, I would have stood for Jeffersonian principles as I do how. I am more for economic freedom that you are. You are at least a socialist and perhaps a full-blown communist. I believe in free markets and capitalism. You believe income redistribution, sky-high taxes, government regulation and “social justice” whatever that is. The next step for you is full control of everything by the government. Health care will be first followed by the energy sector. After that everything else will fall in line for full government domination. I am not being played at all. You are the one being played if you have a decent job and are in the process of saving and buying a house. None of that is acceptable in the radical world that you find so appealing. So, you think that Antifa does exist along with MS-13 and the other anarchists who are determined tear everything apart. You have to believe in the communist inspired Black Lives Matter movement because they are in your face. You are either a fool who believes what the Democrats tell you, or you are one of the sinister people who write the propaganda for them. And yes, I know the historical scenario that anarchists preach. You push the establishment to more repressive reactions by committing ever escalating terrorist attacks. The idea is to paint the establishment as the oppressors so that “the people” will join your movement. That worked in France and Russia because the establishment under the kings and czars were corrupt. It won’t work here because the American system is fair to those who are willing to work hard and obey the law. Here’s a prediction for you. If Trump wins the election, you will see a rash of terrorist bombings. If the Democrats win and don’t move with the speed radicals expect, you will see the bombings just the same. The SDS Weathermen were small in number and were soon overwhelmed. Your movement is much larger and better organized. Regardless of how the election falls, people you support will make life more difficult in America. The reason why is that too many people of your generation are programed robots.
Pretty clear you're not going to be swayed. But, neither will I so easily. I'll agree to disagree on this for now. Are you watching the RNC? Can I at least get your take on how Trump-centric it is? While we're at it, why do you think he's the first incumbent with no living president endorsements? Does the cult of personality he's fostering in the party not concern you? As I understand it, that too is a classical authoritarian trait.
It remains to be seen if Trump will over expose himself with appearances night after night. As for the lack of endorsements, I could care less. They don't mean much anyway. The Bush family abandoned the Republican Party in 2016 when they announced that they voted for Hillary Clinton. If the Democrat had been Al Gore, John Kerry or even Obama, I might have forgiven them. BUT when you leave the party that has given your family two nominations for vice president and four nominations for president for stinking, rotten, crooked Hillary Clinton, you have gone into the sewer. If they disliked Trump that much, they should have kept quiet. I lost a lot of respect for them because of that. Hillary Clinton was the worst presidential nominee by a major party since the Democrats came up with Franklin Pierce and James Buchanan in 1852 and 1856 respectively. Pierce was a drunk and a very weak man with no firm positions on anything. Buchanan was slaveholder loving weakling with no principles. If you want to go back into history, Richard Nixon didn't get much more than a backhanded, very late endorsement from Dwight Eisenhower in 1960. That was year Ike came up with the “If you let me think about it for week, I might think of something positive Nixon did my administration.” (paraphrased)
I mean it more in terms of former Republicans endorsing Biden. There's a whole Republicans for Biden movement. The only ones that seem to "like" Trump are ones tied to him by still being in office. I've said it in other threads, but I genuinely believe the Republican party is dead, and you have the Trump party now. Half the key speakers at the convention have the last name "Trump" and they even included Tiffany who's never been a part of the family dealings. They also declined to make a new platform and instead are focusing on Trump's 2nd term agenda for the RNC. I just wondered if the centralization of attention and power around Trump bothered you.
