San Diego flight turns back b/c of Arabic

that group of suspicious imams that spread out asking for seat belt extensions is one thing, but this group of iraqis going home after training marines is another.

if i was one of the 126 passengers that missed their flight because one woman was causing a scene, i'd be pretty pissed.

terrorists can be anybody. caucasian like mcveigh, black like the dc snipers, or asian like the va tech shooter. if al qaeda started recruiting terrorists that didn't look like arabs, we'd all be in deep doo-doo.

 

I'm afraid we already have them over here and running for the Democratic nomination for President in 2008. These people will cause more damage to this country than a dozen 'twin towers' incidents. It is playing into the hands of the Arab countries to elect Democrats and let them run Washington. Just how spookey can that be?

 

Pointed this out quite a while back that not all muslims are arabic in apperance strangly some might even be white and blue eyed blonds you get them from certain parts of Turkey and also you get light skinned Kurds never mind those of european decent who could be terrorists. If people start to panic every time they see two or more people of mid eastern apperance talking then we are in trouble.

 

That is sad what happened in San Diego but should be expected. If I went to Iraq dressed in civilian clothes and as a civilian, that I am, then I would expect that I would be a target because I don't speak the same language and wear different clothing. This is common sense! The Iraquis knew where they were and should not take offence because no one was taken out and beheaded.

 

i can't agree that it's common sense and that this behvaior should be expected. we brought those guys over here from iraq to train marines. they were all dressed in normal civilian clothes, but four of the iraqis can't speak any english at all. when they opened their mouth to talk, a woman passenger complained to the airline gate personnel. when they didn't kick them off the flight for her, she complained about them again on board the plane...loudly, until the plane turned around to let her off the flight. since san diego's airport is in the middle of the city, noise pollution laws require that no flights take off past 11:30pm. everybody on that plane had to reschedule their flight for the next day.

i'd agree that extra scrutiny should be paid to people who are acting suspiciously, but not being able to understand english isn't a quality we train to look for to find terrorists. the only other country i can think of that thinks so lowly of people not being able to speak their language is france.

deploy a few times, work with interpreters, and read the story again. you'll have a completely different view, i guarantee it.

 

Then I suggest, San Magoo, that you do not know the definition of common sense. It does not mean right or wrong but those who sit on a hot stove get a hot seat.

 

common sense = beliefs based on knowledge or experience of the average common person.

based on your answers, i'm gathering you think that you and the majority of americans believe people who are different from you are guilty based on prejudice instead of actual crimes, and that's perfectly alright.

if that's the honest truth about the state our country is in, then your cute "magoo" comment might as well be true. if i've dedicated my life and well-being to uphold the values and ideals of a people full of hate, ignorance, and 1960's-era prejudice...i'd rather be blind and blissfully unaware. i can think of several other groups of people who share the same morals, and i'd rather not be associated with any of them.

 

Of course you'r right on this one Miguel, but what you have said in only part of the story. Just how stupid is it that California can dictate that a plane can't depart after such a time. Maybe that is the reason most of us would rather be stranded in 3 feet of snow, rather than put up with the foolishness of such laws.
Why didn't they just lower the old gal to the runway and go ahead and make their taxi down the taxi strip. Let her walk back,and maybe the next time she will think twice about making such a fool of herself.
