Let’s face it, if the situation were reversed and the Republicans had to nominate a new justice to the Supreme Court in the environment of a Democratic controlled Senate, they already would have submitted Sarah Palin’s name.

Were that to happen, there's no doubt that Senator Obama would block it just like he tried to block Alito.

Honey, I'd block it myself alongside of every other breathing American.

Since the situation is not reversed, my guess is your IOC will nominate

Well, dear, that's exactly how we feel about any liberal that Osama might nominate. As I've said before: Block, baby, block.

Isn't it Obama's right to nominate a "liberal" just like Republicans nominated "conservatives"? So having a conservative majority for over 40 years is the only SC make up the Right will accept? Too bad! Sucks to be you.

Absolutely. And in the same sentence giving Obama the power to nominate, it gives the Senate the power to reject his nomination. This can be done either by voting his nominee down, committee voting the nominee down, or simply ignoring his nominee.

Precisely! If Osama insists on nominating a liberal, then it is the Senate's obligation, as representatives of the people (remember the 2014 midterms?), to reject a liberal nominee. And KEEP rejecting nominees until a conservative who is more in line with the electorate can be chosen.

Since Osama will undoubtedly nominate only extreme liberals, it's best if the Senate simply ignores them. Let the new Republican president choose the person in 2017.

    Wait a minute.....gather thoughts.
So, the guy that spent the last 7 years wiping his ass with The Constitution, now wants congress to uphold it so he can appoint a Justice that will spend the rest of their life wiping their ass with it?
You cannot make this shit up. Fuck him.
Filibuster Alito....both him and Hillary, along with Schumers comments in 2007, demonstrate the sheer lack of morals, ethics and integrity of politicians on both sides.
And there goes the Black Professor carrying the water again.
Now it's racist. Really? Remember Clarance Thomas hearings?
Geez.....Not sure wether to laugh or cry.

    Gather thoughts.....CELEBRATE!!!

WASHINGTON -- GOP senators are straying from their party's line on a potential Supreme Court nominee, saying they would welcome the chance to vote on a candidate put forward by President Barack Obama.

Here is my dream scenario. Obama resigns without nominating anyone. I know, you like it already. Joe Biden is elevated to the presidency for the final year. Biden nominates Obama for the Supreme Court. The Senate refuses to confirm Obama. Biden, not giving a damn, recesses appoints Obama anyway. Republicans sue and it goes all the way to the Supreme Court. Obama is the fifth and deciding affirmative vote in favor of the appointment. Just to piss the Republicans off more, Biden picks a Muslim for the vice presidency. Republican's heads explode.

This one? Please take note of the exception.

S.RES. 334. EXPRESSING THE SENSE OF THE SENATE THAT THE PRES. SHOULD NOT MAKE RECESS APPOINTMENTS TO THE SUPREME COURT, EXCEPT TO PREVENT OR END A BREAKDOWN IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE COURT'S BUSINESS. KEATING MOTION TO RECOMMIT TO JUDICARY COMM.

I guess the democrats have been lying about everything else, they might just as well lie about that as well.

Republicans seem to be OK with the Supreme Court picking a president but not a president picking a Supreme Court Justice. Have they even read the Constitution?

It was an attempt at a filibuster and it failed and Alito was confirmed.

A blanket statement from an idiot. Historical documents exist from a small percentage of human's history. What people believed before those documents is conjecture, at best. Since he's a supposed practitioner of the words on documents, he's proven himself to be bs artist when it comes to the facts. What's more, he tailored himself under the guise of neutrality. Complete bs. The list of people to the right of him, politically, morally and culturally, is much much shorter than the list of people to the left of his supposed neutrality.

Good riddance to an extremist. His loss is America's gain.
