Look at their top 2 candidates. Neither Trump nor Carson has ever been elected to anything much less represent the GOP establishment. Together, they have the vast, vast majority of support with the GOP base. I know what I can't stand about the GOP but it seems like anything that reeks of the GOP establishment is stuck in the lower single digits. What can we conclude from these facts? That the GOP base is sick of being lied to, taken for suckers, and used by their party leaders. Well, except our local coconuts. They appear to be dead enders.
I'm not posting this to boast or brag or dance on the GOP grave but the way this GOP primary is playing out, there is no other conclusion that you can come to. About half of them say that they'd never vote for a Trump under any circumstances and the other half can't stand anything to do with the GOP establishment.
I left the GOP in 2006 to register as an Independant. So I really don't count as the GOP base. But the sentiment is accurate
Understood, but never having been a supporter of the GOP myself, I have very little insight into the reasons so many are turning on the establishment candidates. What have you been hearing from that side?
The sentiment is accurate. People are tired of the same old same old. Both sides.. That's what I hear in my neck of the woods. BTW, I'm in a customer service position, (waitressing! After 30 years away from it..) And hear a lot of these conversations on a regular basis. Seems to be a popular topic.
Joe....this seems to be civil so I'll go along. There was a time i was a political junky eat sleep breath. You know what these days? Don't give a flying F. Disallousioned probably best describes it. Tired of being cheated on and hoodwinked. The conservatives gave the repos two substantial landslides based upon conservate principles being the campain theme. Stabbed in the back. They delivered everything they campaigned AGAINST. It's not just the right. You're intelligent...you see it too in your ranks. I'm willing to say both our sides are pretty sucky right now.
Sound familiar? Hillary is the DNC's establishment candidate and for months no other candidate was allowed to challenge her. But look what's happened.
Well Jack, I always liked you but it seems sometimes like someone else gets a hold of your ID and password and.... well never mind. I thought you'd have a good perspective on this topic. I may not agree with you on some issues but at least you try to have an honest conversation. I think a certain number of Democrats will always be fed-up with politicians even if only because they don't like the idea of authority in any form but I have to say, I've heard no complaining about either Obama or the choices for 2016 from Democrats. I think many of them would be happy with either Clinton or Sanders or possibly a third prospect. I personally hate political dynasties like Clinton's or Bushs' or any family business that is politics. Although, I give the Kennedy's a pass. I think the current politics is treading into some uncharted territory. Trump is a different kind bird. He can't be controlled by the GOP because he is self-funded and he is a little nuts. I think once the novelty wears off, Trump will either bow out loudly or inflict as much damage as he can by staying in. It should be interesting to watch play out.
....for if they did she would breath fire and chase them from the register's office. * I'm assuming that we are creating a fictional story, that it was my turn to continue it. ** If you believe otherwise then you are nuts...which may explain the squirrel on your head.
Nice to see you pop in Jack. Now the same old same old (from me anyway). I have been saying for years now on this forum (and that in itself is scary) that I would vote for a Republican that merits my vote. I just haven't seen one in years. I have voted Republican, Democrat and Independent We need two strong parties and more in my opinion. Been saying that for a long time too. I've also been saying the Republican party has been self destructing for years. I still hold that view. They really are destructing the party. Times are changing and it seems they refuse to acknowledge it. Tis a pity for the party and our country.
THE ART OF LISTENING I can only imagine what you hear as a waitress LucyRay and I suppose not commenting generates better tips. Seriously. After all, you have a job and you probably hear a lot of stupid depending on your definition of stupid. Still you do your job. I admire this. I do it too and I think your scenario is probably worse. I figure you hear both sides of the stupid. I generally hear one side due to the nature of the business. Still, just listening can be so informational. It gives you a feel for what is actually going on. Or not. Not enough people realize that.
Conversely, I see the Democrat party withering away. Losses in 2010, MAJOR losses in 2014, a president elected by the cult of personality only and re-elected by the same low-information voters. Who do the Democrats have now? A career politician (Hillary Clinton) whose personality and scandals are causing her popularity and poll numbers to take a dive off a cliff, an avowed socialist and/or communist (Bernie Sanders) whose policies (by estimates of the CBO) will raise our national debt 18 Trillion Dollars in 10 years. There are a couple more no-name guys running that no one has heard of. People are abandoning the Democrat Party in leaps and bounds. They are tired of career politicians who are saying the same, old tired things from the same, old tired mouths... over... and over.... and over again. Voters are looking for someone new, someone fresh on the scene, someone who doesn't owe every politician from here to China or Iran something. Someone who isn't running because she thinks she can garner votes due only to the fact that she has a vagina and not a penis. People are beyond tired of the Democratic Party lying to them. They see Hillary as an extension of the "Lie Machine" and they're right. Yes, there are some straying from the Republicans, but at this point, I believe it's just to see if the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. They will still wind up staying in their own yard. The Republican Party this cycle is strong and well-placed for a victory in 2016. What you're seeing with all the in-fighting and bickering is simply "American politics at work". The victor will soon be announced, the others will support the victor and will work together to obliterate the Democrats. Sure, the Republicans snipe at each other, but once the clouds settle, the victor will probably choose one as his or her Vice-President or Secretary of State. Politics makes strange bedfellows.
Some crying "Hillary! Hillary!" On a related note, what ever happened to the once hysterical "Obama! Obama!" chant? It became so desperate that I almost peed myself with laughter for the better part of a decade. It was that cute. Oh well, Hillary's turn...again. It's not like she's not used to it.
Best never to give opinion in a service job. Rarely to friends. As a side note, my favorite group is a table of 6 men; they show up every single morning, each with opposing views, each a veteran from some branch or other, each my age or older (gasp!). Some days I'm sure they'll never speak to one another again. But they do. It gives them some purpose, I think. From them, I have heard a wealth of info. Much like reading the differed views on this forum.
I personally like people with different views and opinions. The people I can't tolerate are the ones that can't tell the difference between their own opinions and actual facts. I think that there are people convinced that their opinions are more valid than anyone else's opinions, are merely demonstrating that they have no confidence in their own positions. They generally are the loudest and the least informed. They are easy to pick out.
