Man Accidentally Kills Self With Gun During Demonstration On Gun Safety Posted: 02/25/2014 11:07 am EST Updated: 02/25/2014 11:59 am EST A man from Independence Township, Michigan accidentally shot and killed himself on Monday while teaching his girlfriend about gun safety, the Oakland Press reports. The 36-year-old, whose name has not been released, was showing his girlfriend how his three handguns are safe when they aren’t loaded, according to the Detroit Free Press. He was attempting to demonstrate the safety of the handguns by holding them to his head and pulling the trigger. The third gun fired, and the man was struck in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Three children ages 7, 10, and 12 were in the home but did not witness the shooting, according to reports. The man's girlfriend told authorities he had been drinking most of the day before the incident took place. This isn't the first time a gun safety demonstration has gone wrong. In January 2013, 18-year-old Florida resident Alexander Xavier Shaw died doing a similar demonstration. Richard M. McLean, a 22-year-old from Michigan, died in a similar fashion in June 2012. Missouri resident James Looney, 40, was also teaching his girlfriend about gun safety when he shot himself in the head in September 2009.
I take a couple of things away from this post.... First, it's sad that someone would celebrate this guy's death, as moron joe does & it's even more pathetic that iqless would "like" this story Secondly, describing this guys actions as "a demonstration of gun safety" shows a great deal of irresponsible, partisan reporting on behalf of the agency that posted the story.
"Liking" that post isn't easy. Guns are far far too easy to misuse. Accidental shootings happen, even while being "safe" about it.
C'mere David...(holds David's hand)... ...This is how that works: First, I began to reply to the OP. While writing mine, you yourself posted. However, since I myself was writing a reply to the OP, your comment was not visible. As such, when I posted my reply, I saw yours "pop-up" before mine. See? (Lets go of David's hand, which smells of fish) ...Why do you smell of fish? You been to Portugal, or something?
Well, here was my thinking... You hadn't posted is such a long time, I figured that you had also shot yourself. I figured that one of these "gentlemen" must be you. So, in reality, I really had nothing to celebrate......yet....and now, well, you've really ruined my week. Thanks Obama!
It really doesn't matter to me whether you believe me or not, but at least I can say I made the attempt to show you how it happened. So, how was Portugal? I hear they mourned for three days after Hitler died.
Here's my take on it and I'll ask David as I know he collects guns and am sure he knows his gun safety. So David, would you EVER put a gun up to your head and pull the trigger to show how safe it is? Would anyone here for that matter? This story is a tragedy. Can you imagine the horror of seeing your "instructor" accidently blow his brains out? I put instructor in quotes for a reason. It would seem obvious to me that this person never had a good course in gun safety. Or perhaps didn't pay attention in the course. What a shame.
If my choice is to call attention to a tragedy or learn nothing from it, I'm going to go with calling attention to it. If that bothers you because you'd rather not hear about the "good tragedy", TOUGH!!
I own several guns & they've never killed anything or anyone. And no, I wouldn't put a gun up to my head regardless of the circumstance.
His girlfriend who was standing right next to him? Definitely in the running for a Darwin Award. The Darwin Awards salute the improvement of the human genome by honoring those who accidentally remove themselves from it...
