A beloved medium like radio has been a part of this country since radio was first conceived of in the early part of the last century. Americans first heard some of the most famous moments in our history though radio. It is part of our culture and still relevant in this age of TV, the internet, and music streaming because it changes and adapts to wherever the culture of the country takes it. Until now.
Rush Limbaugh has lost so many sponsors and created such a black eye for talk radio since his Sandra Fluke comments that even people with polar opposite messages on other stations are feeling the impact. Advertizes are fleeing the medium and hurting the industry as a whole beyond anything the industry has ever experienced. He has so poisoned the well that many stations in smaller markets have either gone silent or to a format that is merely a canned program with almost no listeners just to keep their FCC licenses.
The point being that this is what the extremism of the Right can do when given a microphone, literally. This is just one example of how the Right-wing is willing to go to achieve their misogynistic, sexist, racist, homophobic goals that are so out of step with the rest of the country that they hurt this great land just opening their mouths.
You can also look at their support for fracking, the coal industry, the oil pipeline, their climate change denying, and dozens of other policies that hurt this country in support of the 1%. They simply don't care as long as there are dollar signs in their eyes.

So, now you're railing against freedom of speech. I know you would love to silence anyone you disagree with, but the freedom-loving people in this country will always fight against your kind. Your mentality has no place in a free society and, even though you don't realize it, you're on the wrong side of history. King George learned his lesson. Will you?

I'm all for freedom of speech as you know. The public airwaves have long, long, been regulated by the FCC and nobody, nobody defines their regulations as a "freedom of speech" issue. If this ad hominem is all you have to justify the damage Limbaugh has done to the talk radio industry in this country, I suggest you try again. It just doesn't fly. The public airwaves clearly cannot be used to slander individuals nor can they be used to say anything that comes into your head. Right-wingers have pushed the boundaries of the public airwaves to the point that they have damaged the entire industry. Using the 1st Amendment to justify the heinous things these Right-wingers say and the damage they do is just one more example of how the Right will even use the Constitution to achieve their perverted agenda.

Oh, but the public airways can be to slander the right. i.e. push grandma over the cliff, the right wants dirty water and dirty air, Reagan was a sexist, talk slut, Palin should be punished as a slave, et al. Yet somehow one of the right calling an idiot who has to spend $3000 on birth control a slut is responsible for damaging the first amendment? You seriously have to rethink your stance.

Well Coinous, at lease your little parrot agrees with you.

The damage done to the entire industry is at issue here. That can't be attributed to the 1st Amendment or any imagined slight against the Right. It does however reside squarely with Rush Limbaugh. That isn't in dispute as a simple Google search will tell you. Limbaugh caused the entire mess himself. Advertisers not only pulled back from his program in droves but other programs at exactly the same time. There was a loud sucking of advertising dollars out of radio industry that coincided with Limbaugh's comments and he was named as the reason in many of their press releases. The fact that Limbaugh thought that someone having "lots of sex" would need more birth control pills says a great deal about his understanding of birth control in general. No one doubts that it began with Limbaugh and no one with a brain in their heads would doubt it. It's a simple matter of public record.

And this brings me back to my point... Which is the damage these Right-wing extremists do to this country. Don't you guys owe the rest of us an apology or something?
