    Just got back from work.

    I watched some of it last night, but haven't heard the republican responses yet. It really doesn't matter what the little @#$%-heads had to say, but I'm sure the maintenance staff had to work overtime to clean-up the spittle.

    The only thing that came from the SOTU was promises of more end-runs around the Constitution from President Osama. This op-ed sums it pretty well:

    Barack Obama -- the man who would be America's king

    In his State of the Union address, President Obama reaffirmed, to great applause from his Democratic colleagues, his promise to make 2014 a “year of action.”

    Despite the obvious harm caused by his administration’s single-minded implementation of ObamaCare, he plans to pursue his ideological agenda on his terms, regardless of the consequences to the rest of us. And, as he said repeatedly throughout the speech, he’ll do this by taking matters into his own hands, ruling by decree when the other branches of government disagree with him.

    For those who have been following the president, this is not news. Before the speech, Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters[​IMG], “The president sees this as the year of action, to work with Congress where he can, and to bypass Congress where necessary.”

    Our nation was built on the idea of government “by the people,” not by one man.
    Several weeks before that, Obama stated[​IMG] in a cabinet meeting: “[O]ne of the things that I’ll be emphasizing in this meeting is the fact that we are not just going to be waiting for legislation in order to make sure that we’re providing Americans the kind of help that they need. I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone.”

    With his pen and his phone, Obama has made it clear that he will brook no insolence from a Congress he sees as standing in the way of his policy agenda.

    His justification for this unilateral approach to governing is the allegation that Republicans in Congress are being obstructionist purely for the sake of obstruction, holding the government hostage to their “extreme” demands.

    In reality, this is no justification at all.

    The American system of government was intentionally designed with three equal branches, meant to serve as checks and balances to one another to prevent the excessive expansion of government power.

    When one branch is not acting in accordance with the wishes of the other two, this should be taken as a signal for more negotiation, more debate and more consensus, not mere railroading that undermines the legislative process as laid out in the Constitution.

    Congress is unique in that it contains representatives from every state, allowing the individual needs of different regions of the country to have a voice in the political process. Only 62 million[​IMG] of the more than 317 million[​IMG] Americans voted for Barack Obama in 2012. Congress provides an opportunity for the remaining 255 million to have a say in the process as well.

    By using executive authority to bypass Congress, Obama is effectively disenfranchising a majority of Americans, whose elected representatives have been rendered toothless by the president’s overreach.

    This is not the first time in history that presidents and legislatures have been sharply divided by differences of opinion. In the past, however, the importance of the lawmaking process was recognized, and consensus was reached through negotiation and compromise.

    Obama’s failure to effectively negotiate with Congress—a Congress, it should be added, that has many legitimate grievances with his policies—doesn’t give him license to become a dictator.

    Obama’s speech indicates, more than anything else, his disdain for the American system of governance. For over two hundred years, America has rejected the idea of the autocrat.

    Our nation was built on the idea of government “by the people,” not by one man.

    Once we allow our presidents to behave like kings, the journey down the road to serfdom will be a short one indeed.

    On the serious side, I think threats to raise the minimum wage has employers the most concerned, the ripple effect across the labor force will be tremendous.

    Let's just face it, it was one Republican that stole to show at the SOTU address. Michael Grimm. Now we know exactly what a thug looks like.



    ...As the camera continued to roll, Grimm walked back up to Scotto and began speaking to him in a low voice.
    "What?" Scotto responded. "I just wanted to ask you..."
    Grimm: "Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I'll throw you off this f-----g balcony."
    Scotto: "Why? I just wanted to ask you..."

    Man, you are so wrong. We now know what a red-blooded American patriot who dares to speak truth to the lame street media looks like. It's about time somebody put those bullies in their place. How dare they ask impertinent questions!?! ;)

    I just love how the crocodile tears of the GOP/Tea Party come streaming down their faces when they talk about their sadness that the Obama Administration is unwilling to work with them in a bipartisan way. They say this for their idiotic base and their idiotic base buys it even though it is so well documented that they have no intention of working with the Obama Administration, that even a comedian has no problem tearing their claim to shreds. I just wonder how low your IQ has to be to believe a word the GOP/Tea Party says? A good question. I think that their base doesn't believe that their leadership has any intention of working with Obama and basically takes pride in the obstruction that has no parallel in our history. If the Right-wing is united on one issue, it is obstructionism for purely political reasons. How pathetic and self-serving is that strategy? How pathetic and mindless is anyone that cheers them on? Pretty damn pathetic in my opinion. Why do they hate America?

    If you ask me, asking people ignorant of something their opinions of that thing in a poll, all you would get would be just a bunch of opinions from uninformed people. When you have one party invested in bringing the opinions down by distortions and outright lies, you have no chance of ever achieving and honest sampling of informed opinions. If this Kaiser poll showed anything meaningful, it was that most people had no idea what they were expressing opinions on.

For the third month in a row, overall views of the law remain at their post-rollout more negative levels (50 percent unfavorable, 34 percent favorable), though over half the public – including three in ten of those who view the law unfavorably – say opponents should work on improving the law rather than keeping up efforts to repeal it.

    So what kind of opinions would get from the public if I asked them about quantum physics while at the same time telling them that it was all magic?

    “I think in order to maximize our year, it’s important that we show the American people we’re not just the opposition party – we’re actually the alternative party,” House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday at a press conference kicking off a GOP strategy retreat in Maryland.
    “I think Republicans have to do more to talk about the better solutions we think we have that will help the American people grow their wages, have better opportunities, get a better job – and clearly, have a better shot at the American dream,” he added.

    Just got back from work.

    Found a rat in an attic while my son and I were putting in some insulation. I didn't even think of you as it bumped into my boot, face first. It was too tiny and insignificant a creature to even react to, so it still lives.

    No guarantees it'll stay that way though. My boss found a pack of rat-poison, and had me put some up there for it to eat.

    Now I am indeed thinking of you. :p

    Certainly no Republican eminence has ever puked up that aged hair ball before, then turned right around and carried on with their imperturbable intransigence, while offering zilch in the way of constructive alternatives. This has been going on for years now, and the Republican faithful eat it up with exclamations of pride and joy. For connoisseurs of abject hypocrisy and cynical mendacity it has been a delight, as well. It's so sweet that the pusillanimous lame street media happily go along with the gag that this is a "new message." :cool:

    I think the minimum wage debate was put front and center and was clearly the focus of the SOTU. Obviously, the Dems are sick of inaction on this issue and now the ball is being kicked in the face of the GOP. I hope it leaves a mark. Like in November.
