Called nothing more than a voter suppression tool. Why are Republicans so un-American that they try to subvert democracy to win elections? They should be tried for treason--Every one of them. Pennsylvania Voter ID Requirement Struck Down Posted: 01/17/2014 10:48 am EST A state judge has ruled that Pennsylvania can’t require voters to show ID at the polls. Commonwealth Court Judge Bernard McGinley said Friday that the photo identification requirement at the center of Pennsylvania’s controversial 2012 voter ID law “unreasonably burdens the rights to vote” guaranteed by the state constitution. He ordered the commonwealth to stop enforcing the requirement. A coalition of civil-rights groups challenged the requirement in court last summer after Republican lawmakers passed it and Gov. Tom Corbett signed it into law in 2012. Witold Walczak, legal director the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, one of the groups that challenged the rule, said the trial revealed the law to be “nothing more than a voter suppression tool." Corbett’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A growing number of states have passed voter ID requirements in recent years, including North Carolina, Ohio and Indiana. Pennsylvania's law was among the strictest. The plaintiffs, including the Pennsylvania League of Women Voters, the NAACP and the Philadelphia-based Homeless Advocacy Project, first challenged the law’s constitutionality in the summer of 2012, contending that many voters lacked state-approved ID cards and didn't have the paperwork needed to get them. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/17/pennsylvania-voter-id-struck-down_n_4617304.html
Even though you don't seem to agree, I still have faith people are smart enough to secure ID. Heck, they need ID to see a doctor, cash a check, drive a car, etc.
You have this strange idea that everyone's situation is exactly the same as yours. You think everyone has access to a car or public transportation, everyone has access to a DMV, everyone has money to buy a driver's license, everyone has the same mobility and resources that you have... Are you really that insulated sitting out there in the middle of rural nowhere? There are both inner city and rural areas that don't even have access to basic postal services. I think your rural attitude says a lot about how naive you are. It would be a struggle for hundreds of thousands of people to meet this requirement that you find so easy. You just speak from a place of ignorance and I don't really mean to insult you but you really don't have a clue about the situation the most vulnerable people in society find themselves. Voting may be the only way for some of these people to elect leaders that will be sympathetic to their plight and you want to take even that bit of hope away from them.
You seem to have left out the bit about seeing a doctor! How ya gonna use Obamcare if you don't have an ID?
Oh for God sake! Health care insurers send you a new membership card every year with your group number and group ID in the mail. You think the DMV will do the same?
You're talking about the insurers now? Really? Where'd that come from? Let's focus, shall we? When one visits their doctor or the hospital or even the free clinic, they are required to present a photo ID. Right?
NO! That is completely untrue. I have never had to show an ID for a doctor's appointment. What would kids do in that situation? Come on man, think!
I have no idea when the last time you went to a doctor was, but you absolutely have to show an ID. Believe me. I have lots of practice.
The point is not whether certain of our People know how to get photo IDs, but rather are their IDs the ones Republicans know the poor are less likely to possess. Next require that one of those types of ID are required to vote. Other photo IDs which would suffice at banks, etc. which local community support agencies produce for poor and homeless who often lack an address to which state IDs are mailed in a timely manner, simply are not sufficient to vote, under the stricter ID laws that Republicans enact in the hope that voting by groups which skew Democrat will be lessened. None too complicated really. And SCOTUS could easily see the fraudulent motive. "Life sucks, then we're reincarnated." - - Anonymous
BS! Then what do kids have to show? Tell me that? BTW Photo ID or just your medical insurance/Medicare card?
If they walk in and expect to be treated, yes. But most likely, it is their guardian's ID. BTW, the guardian also has to approve the treatment.
My doctor's office, my kid's doctor, the hospital where my wife works & the clinic where she volunteers all require photo ID upon check-in. At the kid's doctor's office, my wife or I have to show our ID's.
Well, I can't call you a liar because it could be a state thing but I can tell you that I've never shown a driver's license in any state I have lived in. I show them my new insurance card once a year when they are reissued but that is it. Are you referring to a picture ID or an insurance card? What kind of ID are you talking about specifically?
I do not know what David shows, but I have show and they take a copy of my driver's license for their records.
You might want to ask them why they need a copy of your driver's license to see a doctor. It really has no practical use or medical information on it and it is in all likelihood optional.
The reason I can think of that a doctor might want your picture ID is for turning you over to a collection agency of you owe them money. Still, I have never given them a copy of my license.
Looks like hospitals in Chicago want a photo ID as well! http://www.nmh.org/nm/hospital-guide-patient-medical-identity-theft
