I guess this Duck Dynasty thing is a big deal...

I had not read that but A&E knew what they were getting and what they were putting on the air straight from the beginning.

As usual Stu, you are the only one that can discuss this without the personal attacks the rest seem to need so badly. I see what you're saying and I do agree that from his perspective, he does see this as sin and he isn't advocating that they be treated any differently. Good for him. I think that he is probably a pretty decent guy but just a little backwater for the amount of public exposure he has found himself faced with. I've seen the show a few times with my rural relatives and they love it. I didn't think it was anything special but I hate those contrived, overly scripted reality shows no matter who they are about. As I said, I think this guys is just a little too simple and in over his head. This was bound to happen eventually. Heck, it sounds like the plot to any number of B flicks that have ever been put to celluloid.

There goes Smoke-Screen Joe again...deflecting the discussion away from the Liberal/Progressive campaign of institutionalized child abuse. :(

Why would any journalist change the words of anyone they interviewed? What were they supposed to do? This is an awfully silly point.

For REAL!?!?! You are complaining about someone else's personal attacks.

Maybe you could send your brother-in-law down to beat him up like you threatened to do to me. BTW, while he was at LaTech, he was first string quarterback and Terry Bradshaw was second string.

Object. They held the cards (i.e. contract). They pull the strings.

Hehehe... RLM, I had to laugh out loud when I heard Racist Joe complain about the personal attacks. Seriously. It's like the pot calling the kettle black. Hoo boy!

I disagree. He may be a good pot, but there is no kettle competition in this case.

On a side note, I finally figured out why that picture of Karl Pierson bother me. I grew up with a kid that looked a lot like him. In fact, he was my neighbors and he played in my sandbox. However, he turned out a bit different. I am sure you have all heard of "This old House". Steve Thomas "wrote" several books to go with that series. The true author was Philip Langdon - my neighbor - of at least several of those books.

Ahhh... This Old House. One of my favorite programs. I know who Steve Thomas is, but I've never heard of Philip Langdon. Sometimes, ghost writers never get credit. But, they get paid, so... hey.

I think I would disagree about getting in over their heads. I am pretty sure the entire family did that show in large part to put their faith out there in the public vies. Sure, there is money and business aspects and the fun of fame but had AE not let the faith in, I don't think there would have been a show. The guy is a church elder and all their public appearances, the sons and others from the show, are really sermons and talking about God.

I really believe that a guy like that is not going to care one bit if people disagree with his beliefs or if he is getting hammered for his faith in the media. I think he would probably see one believer for every hundred detractors as a success.

I also really doubt that their duck call business will suffer at all either. If anything...I bet it might increase. And I know the Duck Dynasty stuff down here is now front and center in many places where some of it was on the clearance shelves before this in a number of places.

AE is probably the ones who got in over their heads if they thought that this wasn't going to happen. Or cared that it would eventually happen.

I've only seen the show a handful of times and probably never an entire episode. I didn't really see any religious aspect of any kind in the shows that I did catch, I just found the whole program sort of boring. I also don't believe that he is being hammered for his faith. If his beliefs have been part of the show all along, why suddenly would people start hammering him at this point except that he expressed some pretty insulting views based on his beliefs? As I said, I think that this guy is just simple folk with a poor understanding of people that are not just like himself. Most prejudice I have ever seen comes from a lack of exposure to some group that is being stigmatized and sterotyped. Clearly, this guy doesn't venture far from his church.

I've read up on the Duck Dynsaty bunch & it would appear the country bumpkin persona was deveopled for the show. In reality, they are a very successful, well-educated lot and their faith is sincere. I also read today that Cracker Barrell has backed off from trying to distance themselves from the Robertsons.

Why are you guys parsing the words and intentions of Phil Robertson? This isn't about Phil Robertson or Gay Rights...it's about what we as a Society hold up as an acceptable lifestyle to the youth of America. Liberal/Progressives images of right and wrong in Media today are skewed to the point of "Child Abuse".

    Consider this example...

Suppose there are gang members somewhere. As long as they don't violate anyone's civil rights or act in a threatening way toward others, they're free to think, act, or dress anyway they like.

However, if they decide to promote hostile or threatening actions toward one group or another...either overtly by holding public demonstrations or by using the Media to favorably affect the opinions/actions of youth (Rap Music, video games, etc)...against the wishes of parents, you might say they're stepping over the line...right?

That's what this issue is about...not the civil rights of the LBGT community, but the slow, steady promotion of the LBGT lifestyle to youth in violation of the rights of parents. Do parents not have the right and responsibility to raise their children in a healthy, wholesome environment? ...doesn't society have the responsibility to support Family and healthy child development?

The comments of Phil Robertson isn't the issue; the intolerant reaction to his comments is.

It's all about controlling the vocabulary in order to frame the argument. What you call healthy and wholesome, others are out to frame as backwards and oppressive. Once you have successfully defined the vocabulary, there is no more argument, only compliance. Refer to what is now called "Accessible Seating" formerly know as the handicap section. The inference is that all other types of seating are in-accessible with the intention discriminating against a portion of the population. The LBGT community are out to frame the vocabulary where anyone not see the LBGT lifestyle as healthy and wholesome, is re-classed as a mouth breading bigot thumbing through their own personal copy of Mien Kampf. I have never seen Duck Dynasty nor have I read the article, but from what I'm understanding, basically all he said was I don't get it, which came off a bit like Galileo stating that the Earth might possible circle the Sun. There is a price to be paid for political heresy.

Tagging sites as unsafe is the equivalent of internet book burning. I've gotten the virus warnings on searches for one of my favorite sites when I tried a google search.

I would not put it past the liberals for actually infecting sites like that. However, their computing skills have been demonstrated as lacking, but that might be their management skills - or both.
