At this rate it will take 374 months or over 31 years to sell 10,000,000 policies through the Govt Healthcare Exchange.

Wow...really?! I think Democrats hope to break the current healthcare system enough to where we can't go back even it we want to.

I hear the talking points about how the exchanges only affects 5% of the population (6 Million folks), but what happens when the delayed Employer mandates kick in?

I've seen estimates where nearly half of companies currently offering healthcare will simply cancel it and throw their employees into the exchanges. That would be another 30 Million folks.

Of course, Democrats will make sure that doesn't happen until after the 2014 elections.

You beat me to it. The government is just not capable of running anything like that - in particular this administration.

Joe, can you see any way the healthcare system can function cost-effectively and efficiently without government participation? I'm not saying it did in the past...but in the future? Shouldn't we exhaust those possibilities before getting the Government involved? Why can't Tort Reform be part of the discussion?

Let me ask a question. Given that Obamacare is totally dysfunctional and needs to be overhauled at the very least. A minimum of 10,000,000 insurance policies have been cancelled by the insurance companies and another minimum of 100,000,000 to be discontinued next year. In other words, the insurance companies cannot cover those lost this year and will have difficulty trying to cover those lost next year. To make matters worse, the pools that used to cover people with per-existing conditions have been totally disbanded and 50 states have now adjusted their rules to take care of Obamacare insurance. And lots of other bottlenecks I am sure I missed.

With all these problems, just how can Obamcare be fixed to accommodate the future?

Obamacare was never intended to work; it was designed to break so it will be replaced by a Single Payer system. The Obamacare exchanges were only put in place because there wasn't enough support for a Single Payer system.

Many more people are signing up for Medicaid (Single Payer) than the exchanges (because it's "free"). The problem is that Medicaid can't support all the new enrollees.

The Democratic plan is to push everyone into an underfunded Medicaid program so everyone will lose healthcare services without higher taxes. That's their goal...higher taxes. Democrats are purposefully pushing voters into a corner so they have to vote for higher taxes to stop the pain.

I don't disagree in the least, but we still have this elephant in the room that needs to be fixed. Turning it into a "single payer" system will never pass the House. I completely doubt the House will even pass anything to prop it it for a while. Killing it will never pass the Senate although that is looking brighter as Obamacare dies.

    Where is the happy(?) middle?

Unfortunately, we won't see any improvement until after the 2014 elections. Democrats will try to paint Republicans as "obstructionists" and Republicans will try to paint Democrats as "incompetents". In the mean time, taxpayers get screwed.

So what is the fix in 2014? Even if I give you that the Republicans control the Senate, what possible compromise is there? That actually works?

That's really hard to say...it will be hard to put Humpty-Dumpty back together again.

The Key will be to work with insurance companies to create nationally available private health plans that are made more affordable through records automation and Tort reform.

Additionally, folks should be able to save additional money into an IRA that can grow towards retirement, but withdrawn (tax free) for medical expenses...like a health spending account, but one that is self-directed and accumulates over time.

I don't have all the answers, but those are a few that come to mind.

Now you got my point. Biggest problem are the high risk people. They used to be covered by the state high risk pools. They are gone. And I doubt that the states/federals could possible replace them even before 2015. But these people need insurance in January. The government could not put together a functioning system in 3.5 years and now the insurance companies will have to start issuing policies to a spec TBD by the Congress beginning January. My money is on the insurance companies being way ahead of the government, but what good would that be. IT is going to be a nightmare.
