But wait, you just said that there are a lot of jobs out there. Now you're saying that the new normal is few jobs and growing unemployment? You seem to be rather schizophrenic on these topics. Let me guess, another Tea Party Southerner?
Whether it is a higher minimum wage or a tax funded safety net, someone is going to pay for it. Tanstaafl. At least with a safety net, there is the possibility of controlling who pays for it, how much they pay for it and it still gives the low paid workers in bad jobs an incentive to move up and work for a better job. It is not like the xx million of fast food workers are the same at any given moment. There is a constant churn. Of course, in order to maximize the benefit of a safety net, you have to strive to control fraud and have a simple tax system without loopholes, subsidies and bribes. 2 things we (judged by the officials we elect) don't seem to really want to do.
No Joe, no tea party for me.. My comment about jobs out there was in response to your comment about having to support those who work at McD's, burger flipping. Certainly many people have been displaced out of higher paying jobs, into lower paying jobs. Plenty don't work at all while waiting to find jobs to pay higher. All I'm saying is if a person wants to work, there are jobs (I believe something is better than nothing..). Do you think things are "getting better"? I don't and in fact believe we will see far worse. Do all of your retorts have to be so slamming? Normally I choose to disregard a blow-hard; I bet you do too. For a true conversation to happen, participants have to believe at least a little bit, that the other person is at least hearing their words, even if they disagree. I don't think you are even hearing (well, reading..) what others are saying if they appear to be opposing you. But I Could Be Wrong. Ps. I don't know the fix for what shape we are in, I don't think we have it yet. Enjoy your day.
No, LucyRay, you aren't wrong. If anyone offers an opposing point of view that differs from JoeNation's preconceived and prejudiced opinions, he instantly considers that person wrong. I've been trying for years to steer him down the right path of fiscal responsibility, self-reliance, free enterprise, proper taxation and limited government. He insists on following a socialistic, quasi-communistic path to ruin. I doubt anything will ever change his "mind".
Still not sure I understand how people can say someone is being fiscally irresponsible while holding a job that happens to pay below the poverty level, which minimum wage does. Won't people always have to work those jobs? If not, who will? Maybe people who work to service your needs should be happy and intent living in squalor and eating Raman and not being able to afford children or transportation so you can continue to enjoy the services they provide while setting your conscience at ease for not wanting or deserving more from life while doing so. Amazing mind set here.
Well, it seems that you are coming from a place of limited perspective, at least in my case anyway. I've been an active member of this forum since Mar of 2005 and you've been here almost 3 weeks. I have to wonder why you think you even have the perspective to judge me or my posts. I see people like you come and go come and go and I can say with perfect foresight that you'll be gone soon enough. I can even tell you why you'll leave if that interests you. This forum is made up of about a dozen or so regular posters with a few people popping in and out from time to time but basically it is the same core group. Coin collecting is pretty much, in my experience, a old white guy conservative hobby. The only part of that description that fits me personally is "old white guy". So it isn't unusual for this forum to attract mostly Right-wing posters. I don't know if they dominate the ranks of posters here but they definitely ban together in and ideological circle jerk of sorts just like conservatives ban together in their own private media bubble or echo chamber. In that way, this forum reflects at least some of the political reality of this country. They are loudest, the most hypercritical, most entrenched group on this forum. I merely come here to poke fun at their antics. They are by no means kind about this arrangement and I see no reason to be kind in return. I honestly believe that we have more in common with each other than the differences we always focus on would indicate but then again it wouldn't be any fun if we didn't focus on the differences. So, although lecturing me on my behavior might seem to be prudent from your perspective, considering how long I have been here, how well I know the other members here, and just plain having a much longer perspective than yourself, I will say that I hope you also have a nice day as well. I hope you hang around but I'd bet my IRA you'll be gone soon enough.
Nice civil response. New people DO come and go, so I've no prediction for whether I'll be around or bolt. Perhaps I will button up and lurk for a while, for you are correct in your post..I've stepped over a line without warrant.
Problem is, Teddy steps over his own lines (as well as any other line you can think of) all the time. Oh, ans I have yet to see/hear him apologize.
No harm no foul. And you are right, I do flame these guys good all too often but that's what makes it fun.
Losing ground in the war on poverty The welfare system, at its best, is a system that gives people a way to live when they can’t find work for themselves, when they’re down on their luck. At its worst, the welfare system rewards people for not working, and incentivizes people to develop habits that make it harder for them to find work in the future, miring them in permanent poverty.
What I said was accepted by Lucy and we resolved it. You do not need to inject yourself into it. But that never seems to stop your ilk does it.
I feel it's my duty to call you out when you act up... Btw, no comment on Obama's video? Do you mostly agree or disagree with what he says?
