I wanted to retire last year, but was "requested" to keep working. I don't see myself working past 60...need to free up a slot for the younger generation.
Will Government healthcare match what I have now? Will it pay for the "gap" insurance I need to pay...for what it doesn't cover? I don't want any crappy government insurance...payroll "tax" is "money gone". I don't care if I'm on my deathbed...I'll never take anything from Government. That's the definition of a "Loser". That's taking from neighbors and I won't do it. You have to be a real slime-ball to take money from the Government.
On the dole.. I agree with your sentiment, Yakpoo. Hopefully those who actually NEED it are the ones who benefit from government subsidy. All those who don't NEED it should decline. Sadly, that won't happen. Human nature and all. IMO
You'll take Medicare, I assure you. Try paying for health insurance by yourself in your "golden years". You'll go broke. It's all well and good to stand on your principles until you need an operation you simply can't afford. I can't believe that you are being serious to be honest or maybe you are just grandstanding for the crowd but seniors are on Medicare for a reason. The vast majority of illnesses and health costs happen after you turn 65. What insurance company do you think is going to take on that kind of liability? Oh they'll insure you for like 10 or 20 thousand a year if you're lucky. So stop pretending your this morally superior individual that wouldn't take a plug nickel from the government. YOU WILL or you'll go off somewhere and die in a cave. Works either way.
Well, I will give you part of the answer. My grandfather (sort of - long story) retired to his country home in 1935. The last time I saw him was 74/75 and he was still seeing patients and dispensing medicines. In fact, he was listed as the doctor for the adjacent state park. Anyhow, he had to apologize because he had just raised his rates from $12 to $15 - pills/shots included.
I imagine you are correct about Medicare, JoeNation. I have paid FICA taxes forever it seems, as an employee and as an employer. Maybe I won't feel so bad about that. Hope to be here long enough to find out! I'm still not thrilled about my new health care options. You are. There are plenty of both of us (types) to make for plenty of computer time. If we all agreed, what fun would that be? Seriously, there must be something all can agree on?
As I've said before, my wife has a PhD in health policy analysis. I know a bit about how we have the health care system we have today and where we are headed. The for-profit health insurance model has reached the tipping point and cannot be relied upon for more and more people. You (not YOU but the generic YOU) can't go back to the health care model that we had growing up. It fails far too many people but is enormously profitable for a small few. It is simply unsustainable. It had to change. The ACA isn't the end all, be all but it is a good start. They compromised with the Republicans far too much when it was drawn up. It will need tweaking just as Social Security and Medicare were tweaked after they were passed.
Obvious, you had problems, but I think I did very well. BTW, if by "badly", you mean there were fewer cures, you are 100% correct. If by "badly" you mean people could not afford health care, you are sorrily mistaken
You don't have a clue where we're headed unless you can foretell the future, Kreskin. Here's some news for you about Social Security and Medicare. They're not working. Socialist programs like those are doomed to eventual failure and you can blame that on Roosevelt and Johnson. They've been in trouble for some time and we are beginning to see them collapse as we speak. But, you'll bury your head in the sand and deny the truth as long as it fits your immediate, liberal agenda. I don't know how many times you have to be told that socialism and communism are not viable economic models. Come on back to the real world.
You ought to invite hear to post...I would be interested to hear her analysis of our current healthcare policy.
