No. It doesn't allow for more debt by raising it, and not raising it actually creates deeper debt by eliminating credit by default. Every single president for the past 50 years has raised it multiple times per term.
You're right, it actually increases interest rates on the money we borrow for bills we've already racked up. You can't decrease expenses from the backside of spending. But the meme the Right pushes makes their stupid followers believe all kinds of crazy nonsense. They don't even know why their own talking points are pure BS so they surely will not believe anyone they perceive as the other side. Hitler rose to power in a large part due to the low information German populace. This leaderless Tea Party movement just needs a charismatic person like Cruz to light the match and burn this country down just like Germany was eventually burned to the ground by the policies of the Nazi regime.
No? I did not say anything about raising the debt limit and if the debt is capped at $XXXXXXXXXX, how can it be more that what it has been capped at?

Right!! Why on earth do we have a debt ceiling, anyway? Nothing good can ever come of it. It's not like we're going to dismantle the social safety net we have in place...and it has to be financed. As the economist in the Op says "...debt is irrelevant; no country in history has ever paid back their debt". So why do we set these artificial limits that only threaten the economy and interest rates. The real solution is to get rid of the Debt Ceiling law...THAT's the problem!
Now depends what Debts you are talking about The UK paid back it's lend lease debt to the US but I dont know of any other country that has done so. Perhaps you might want to collect on those it will help lower what you guy's owe?
