Healthcare reform was never about helping people, it's nothing more than a method to advance the far left's political agenda. My biggest beef with Obamacare, from the beginning, has been the individual mandate...now the dims are willing to shut down the gov't when all they have to do is compromise & let Obamacare be voluntary for 1 year.
Obama-Care, as it's about to be implemented, is a compromise. Several key parts of the original have been removed. Prior to their removal, the insurance industry would not support it. After the compromises occurred, the insurance industry immediately began supporting it. They had gotten what they wanted.
Without the individual mandate there couldn't br insurance providers, thus crippling healthcare for good. Funny how BOTH parties ratified the bill in the house, and now all of a sudden it's an issue. If its the liberals who won't "compromise", why are the conservatives pointing fingers at the tea partyers, the insane faction of their own party?
Why couldn't there be insurance providers? If Obamacare is all that it's cracked up to be shouldn't there be plenty of takers...on a voluntary basis, of course?
Without individual mandates people wouldn't get policies until they were sick/injured and insurers would have to cover expenses 100% out of their own coffers. It would bankrupt every insurance provider. Pretty simple logic.
I'll say it again...if Obamacare was a good deal you wouldn't have to force people to participate, they'd be lining up to get at it.
Americans are hung up with the idea of getting something for free. My sister is looking forward to getting her "free" health care under Obama. We argued this, we no longer speak about it. The truth is that there is nothing more expensive than "free". I had the opportunity once to take a high school tour group to Denmark. The kids were amazed that people there got "free" health care, "free" college education, and in a pinch "free" housing if you really needed it. The tour guide, in no uncertain terms, told them that none of it was free. Their tax rate was 70% and they pay for every bit of it. He said that things were so bad (this was the late 80's) that some people could no longer afford to pay cash for their houses and had to resort to mortgages. I asked him, how that was possible with a 70% tax rate. I found out that the norm was to live with your parents up until your 40's and saving every bit of your 30% take home in order to buy a house. These were very conservative and frugal people. No going out to eat unless it was a very special occasion, no car unless you absolutely had to have one, and definitely no spree shopping. A liberal government requires a conservative populous. A liberal populous requires a conservative government. You can't one with out the other.
Danes pay 8% Social contribution before any other form of tax A tax ceiling ensures that total income tax does not exceed 51.5% not including the Social tax. This is the rate for the higher earners in Denmark The tax burden in Denmark has been relatively constant while it increased sharply in the period from 1965 to 1988. During the latter period the tax burden increased from around 30 to 50.4 per cent of GDP or approximately 0.8 percentage points per year on average. Only Sweden with a tax-to-GDP ratio of 50.8 per cent has a higher tax burden than Denmark. In 2002, the EU-average is 40.6 per cent while the OECD-average is 36.3 per cent. http://www.oecd.org/tax/tax-policy/37154664.pdf
Here's one for the Dems...actually, it makes sense if you don't have a progressive income tax. http://todayilearned.co.uk/2011/08/07/finland-speeding-fines-calculated-percentage-offenders-income/
The guide said 70% which shocked me, this was Copenhagen so I don't know if he was including any city taxes. I do know that there was a 22% VAT. Either way it's steep.
If they did, you still wouldn't leave it alone. Bush Sr compromised, raised taxes, and got a knife in his back from both sides of the isle. I don't have a thing for cutlery so why should we.
Knife in the back? You mean him getting mad at Saddam for putting a price on his daddy's head and pushing phony information on the public so he could go there and have Saddam removed from power, thereby allowing his friends Dick and company make millions on it was OK with you? Well @#$% me twice and don't forget the tip, I thought that was enough reason to despise the little bastard. I guess I was wrong. I should thank the little @#$% for the $270 he so generously allowed me to have one year. @#$% me.
Bush Senior, not Junior. You know "Read my lips, no new taxes". The one who broke his campaign promise and the deadlock by raising taxes. The one Clinton tarred and feathered for it during the elections. The one who did not push into Bagdad and violate the international mandate, no matter how many people in this country were saying he should. The one who put smooth governance, reason, and comprises ahead of politics and grand standing. As for Junior, he's an idiot but I don't have to tell you that.
Oh, yeah sorry...I was @#$%ing lots of young women at the time Sr.was President and wasn't paying attention to stuff like that. My bad.
