With the individual mandate & open enrollment looming, my former employer called me in to help the administrative side deal with the company's current healthcare provider & navigating the new law...I gotta say, the more you understand the law the worse it is. All politics aside, the policy is just plain bad. Anyone who supports this legislation will quickly change their minds once they are exposed to it. The minimum coverages required by Obamacare are a joke...$6000 deductibles? 60% prescription coverage...after the deductible is met? 60/40 coverage on medical...after the deductible is met? Live saving drugs are barely covered yet birth control is covered 100% from day one? Really? All this for a $369/mo premium ($443/mo if a smoker)? Our agent showed us where this exact same coverage, less the 100% birth control coverage & coverage for dependents up to age 26, has always been available for much less...in fact, with those coverage limits, they have offered the same program for half as much but stopped selling it when Obamcare legislation indicated plans with even lower deductibles would be "non-conforming".
Open registration for Obamacare begins Oct 1st & there isn't a single bit of documentation on how the policy will be administered or what the process will be....then to compound the confusion, open enrollment for Medicare is Oct 15.

    * Eighty percent of Republicans favor “creating an insurance pool where small businesses and uninsured have access to insurance exchanges to take advantage of large group pricing benefits.” That’s backed by 75 percent of independents. [...]
    * Fifty two percent of Republicans favor “allowing children to stay on parents insurance until age 26.” That’s backed by 69 percent of independents.
    * Seventy eight percent of Republicans support “banning insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions; 86 percent of Republicans favor “banning insurance companies from cancelling policies because a person becomes ill.” Those are backed by 82 percent of independents and 87 percent of independents.
    * One provision that isn’t backed by a majority of Republicans: The one “expanding Medicaid to families with incomes less than $30,000 per year.”

Another flaky conspiracy theory. This just goes on, and on, and on....

Yep, it's down right crazy...how anyone could come up with this legislation (or continue to support it) is beyond me. The people this is supposed to be helping will be the ones this hurts the most. The rest will have to navigate immense amounts of confusion & red tape in order to pay a lot more for their healthcare.
...and no one can answer the question I've had since Day 1: why couldn't a voluntary, opt-in program be developed to help those in real need? (I know, I know, that would defeat the real purpose...that control thing BO is truly only interested in)

    Providing less for more, isn't that the wave of the future. I've always viewed Obama Care as the Insurance Provider Entitlement Act. David, as you learn more of the details please keep us updated. Question: The policies you quoted prices for, are they through a "qualified insurance provider" or is it like Medicare. The entire act seems to be compounding the existing problems without addressing the real concerns. The main question is the variance of pricing verses actual cost. My provider sends me statements like;

    Procedure X: $6000.00 In Network Savings: $4000.00 Covered: $5.00 You Pay: $1995.00

In any other industry I would consider this to be a scam. What service business normally gives 60 to 70 percent discounts except to dump excess inventory or fill empty seats.

    How's this:
Aetna presented an insurance product to the admin, hoping to gain Obamacare "conforming" status. They took the Obamacare bronze plan & improved every single aspect...lower premium, lower deductibles, better co-pays, etc..except it didn't cover adults up to age 26 or treat birth control any differently than other prescriptions. The plan wasn't approved because those two items were left out. Aetna appealed but again it was denied. Aetna claimed they were offering better coverage for a lower cost and not everyone needed to pay for adult children being covered or used birth control. The admin's final answer? Birth control & adult coverage was such an "important piece" to the Obamacare legislation that it would appear to contradict the cases made for Obamacare & some people would be confused because everything leading up to it's implementation has promised these two coverages.

    A serious question here David.

Assuming your ex employer is in Indiana just where and how did you come up with these numbers?

  11. David

    David Proud Enemy of Hillary

Which numbers? The rates are from the insurance company.

Would that be so different from Obamacare figures coming from this admin? Oh wait, the admin isn't releasing any info, are they? Wouldn't you agree, with something as massive as Obamacare and being about 3 weeks out from open registration, we should know how & where to register? What about premiums? Are you satisifed, this close to roll out, that the gov't can only refer us to the Kaiser Foundation for speculation on premiums?

I really don't want to speculate about anything else coming out of your ass. I only surmised that your posts come directly from that area based on the likelihood that diarrhea originates from there in most other cases. I suppose that having your head firmly inserted in your ass might change that dynamic somewhat but to be honest, whether it comes out of your ass or your mouth, it's still total crap.

Is that what you wanted to know?

That is the premium being charged by our insurer for the cheapest policy that conforms to Obamacare requirements.

You can't win that (or any other) contest. See? Simple.
