In a stunning historical error, Los Angeles Timesreporters Kathleen Hennessey, Richard Simon, Alexei Koseff reported that "Democrats led the passage of civil rights legislation that marchers pushed for in 1963."

In fact, Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV), a former member of the Ku Klux Klan, filibustered the bill in an attempt to kill the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Republican Minority Leader Everett Dirksen (R-IL) saved the landmark civil rights law from defeat by galvanizing Senate Republicans for a cloture vote to stop the Democrat-led filibuster.

On June 9, 1964, the night before the historic cloture vote, the 68-year-old Republican stayed up late into the night typing a speech on twelve sheets of Senate stationery. The next day, Senator Everett Dirksen delivered his oration on the floor of the U.S. Senate just minutes before the final vote. The final tally: 71 to 29, with 27 of the 33 Republicans voting to defeat the Democrat-led filibuster.

Democratic Majority Leader Mike Mansfield said, “This is his [Dirksen] finest hour. The Senate, the whole country is in debt to the Senator from Illinois.” Two days after Dirksen’s speech, Roy Wilkins of the NAACP wrote Dirksen a contrite letter apologizing for his earlier attacks. “The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People sends its thanks to you for your vote for cloture and for your final speech before the vote,” Wilkins wrote. “Your leadership of the Republican Party in the Senate at this turning point will become a significant part of the history of this century.”

The Los Angeles Times has yet to correct its error.

Makes one wonder what went wrong between then and now, then.

Now, as then, Republicans strive to make "We the People" strong & free. Democrats strive to make "We the People" weak & dependent.

    ...nothing's changed.

What I see constantly, and this isn't even a pointless generalization because it does happen often, is that the Right accuses the Left of doing something that they themselves routinely do. Like re-writing history.

Saying that Liberals aren't for progressive civil rights legislation and never have been simply is talking out of your own ass. Liberals always move this country forward and they did during the civil right movement as well. The re-writing of history that has occurred is calling southern democrats Liberals. They never were Lberals and they aren't today.
Losing the south for a generation was the result of Liberal civil rights legislation not conservative legislation. I am too familar with Uncle Okie Cracker's rationalization but no southern black folks are going to be fooled by this bait and switch nonsense. They lived through the civil rights era and they know who is who. Political Partys may change affiliations but Liberals brought us the civil right back then and they are still doing it today no matter how the Right tries and fails to re-write the past. Silly idiots only fool themselves.

Why would anyone care what Breitbart says anyway, it's not like they are a genuine news source. They are a Right-wing blog. They routinely lie and alter video tapes to mislead and lie about just about anything.

Liberals (politicians) are spineless slugs that support any cause that generates votes. They have no true moral or ethical compass. They're hermit crabs that attach themselves to moral or ethical "high grounds" only when advantageous to advance their hidden, nefarious agendas...aka, SCUMBAGS!

Folks that vote for them are well meaning, but sadly misled.

Our disagreement? I'm not making a weak America or a depedant one and I'm more liberal than conservative, so there is no argument. Maybe some imagine a liberal disaster like you envision but most do not.

We're just now (100 years later) "enjoying" the effects of the Progressive 16th Amendment. Progressive initiatives are always designed to destroy the nation after the current generation is gone.

All Constitutional Amendments should re-ratified every sixty (60) years.

Republicans were so deeply invloved with civil rights 50 years ago that they couldn't wait to participate in the 50th Anniversary of the MLK I have a dream speech last weekend. Oh wait, they didn't even bother sending one GOP representative but that kind of support would have made the celebration weak and dependent so instead they showed their support by all being busy that day. Yeah, this probably wasn't the best week to post a nonsense thread like this one and try to shift the blame for their own indifference and callous attitude towards minorities onto Democrats for actually caring about their plight.

Somehow the Right has convinced itself that indifference equals caring and actually caring equals dependency. The great thing about indifference is that it requires you to do exactly nothing but sit back and blame the victims and of course you have to fault those people trying to make a difference in the lives of those people that are in the most need of compassion. They can't let either the victims or those trying to help them escape condemnation for their complete lack of indifference because it would make them look too bad. After all, it isn't about the nail.

You're wrong, Little Joe. Oh... and one other thing: I just checked and Obamacare is STILL not part of the Constitution. I'll check the Constitution again tomorrow, but I gotta tell ya, the odds are not in your favor.

    OK...eugenics.

The abstract of Anna Stubblefield's article "'Beyond the Pale': Tainted Whiteness, Cognitive Disability, and Eugenic Sterilization" in the May 2007 special issue of Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy on "The Reproduction of Whiteness: Race and the Regulation of the Gendered Body" said:

It is a deeply held Progressive "Truth" that eugenics is the answer to poverty and high healthcare costs in America. Illegal eugenics operations have been ongoing in the California State Penal System as recently as 2010...

The Nazi's "Final Solution" was simply an extension of eugenic experiments performed in the United States decades earlier...
As I write this, I have my TV tuned to CNN Headline News. They just had a report on a pregnant woman attending a Pay-Per-View wrestling event at a local pub. She went into the bathroom, gave birth, suffocated/drowned the baby boy in a plastic bag, then returned to finish watching the show.

That's just WRONG! ...by Republican standards. It's a travasty we've allowed a society to develop that teaches young children that deviant lifestyles are OK and personal responsibility doesn't matter.

However, for the sake of discussion, let's say it's OK. It's really not much different than a late-term abortion. After all, she obviously didn't want the baby and wouldn't be a good mother. Who knows...she may have been raped...or at least "passed out" at the time of conception.

She was probably doing the baby (and society) a favor by aborting the life. Why should some group of ghost worshiping freaks dictate to her how she should live her life?

You see? The logic above is the argument "Progressives" use to lay out an immoral "path of least resistance" to young adults in exchange for their vote. The real goal of Planned Parenthood is ethnic cleansing through population management. That's why it was so important that Planned Parenthood be included in Obamacare.

Do you know who founded Planned Parenthood? ...Margaret Sanger. Margaret Sanger also started the "Negro Project" in the deep south to provide contraception and sterilization "services" to poor Negroes..."for their own good".

Do you know who received this year's Planned Parenthood "Margaret Sanger Award"? ...Hillary Clinton.

Republicans believe in economic opportunity and education as the means to elevate under served socio-economic groups...irrespective of race. No, they don't go on marches and promise handouts to this group or that...but that doesn't mean Republicans don't care.

Opportunity is just that...opportunity. It's up to each individual to prepare themselves to take advantage of opportunity. The United States Armed Forces is an excellent example of, not only equal opportunity, but equal rewards to encourage each individual to be the best they can be.

Note: We need to find a way to expand the US Military model of Preparation-Reward to public schools.

Republicans strive to appeal to the best in human character...and don't cater to base human instincts (like Progressives) in exchange for a quick election "win".

Be very wary of “Progressive” politicians…they’re wolves is sheep clothing. They appear nice and caring, but have very evil intentions.

Yakpoo, your post above should be required reading for every liberal on this forum before they're allowed to spew their vomit at the rest of us. So-called "progressives" and other low-information democrats, socialists, communists and liberals are undoubtedly going to back their favorite POS Hitlery Clinton in 2016. The people in this country who know what kind of agenda she has planned must do everything legally within their power to make certain that she is defeated.
