Sooooooooo, just exactly what news DO they report? Old news? It's certainly not "news" they're spewing, that's for certain. MSNBC president says his network doesn't do breaking news June 03, 2013 When breaking news strikes – from terror attacks to tornadoes – it seems MSNBC is cautioning viewers not to turn to them for the latest coverage. Last month, MSNBC fell from its spot behind Fox News to fourth place in the cable news race. The channel’s ratings have also dipped 20 percent compared to this time last year. According to the liberal news network, it’s because MSNBC isn't really into breaking news. “We’re not the place for that,” MSNBC president Phil Griffin told the New York Times this week. “Our brand is not that.”Griffin said covering breaking news isn’t a “long-term” solution when it comes to ratings. While some critics aren’t surprised by the low priority MSNBC puts on breaking news, they are surprised Griffin actually admitted it. Tim Graham, director of media analysis at the Media Research Center, said a cable news boss who says he's not for cable news is sort of like the CEO of McDonald's saying "No, we're all about salads!" "It's like Griffin is saying 'when disasters break out, go somewhere else'" he said. "When you want to hear them blamed on Republicans, then turn to MSNBC." D.C.-based lawyer and public relations expert, Margaret Cone, doubts MSNBC's admission will hurt their standing with their audience. “It’s truthful. They are more opinion based,” she said. “They, along with their anchors, have their brand.” Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2013/06/03/msnbc-president-says-his-network-doesnt-do-breaking-news/#ixzz2VD49lG8K
While some un-named "news" organization have no problem jumping right on breaking news before they have any facts to report. But, reporting concise and factual news isn't what some people want, explaining the continued survival of some "news" reporters. MSNBC had never been a top news organization, so really, whats the point?
Sources for "breaking news" are two a penny and as Guy points out it's there's often more "breaking" involved than there is news. If this is the kind of thing you like you've got Faux, and CNN, ABC and numerous others in their local and national incarnations. MSNBC is saying that breaking news a la Faux is not their thing, “It’s truthful. They are more opinion based”. “They, along with their anchors, have their brand”. And what's wrong with that? You don't like it, hit the remote. I don't pay much attention to any of them. I'm not sure what your point is here, or if you even have one.
Their focus is primarily political commentary. So is FOX . Dang it, I still can't do it. FOX. News. FOX .....oh no, not again... (rinses mouth out, shakes head and continues) I just can't do it.
Some of the things that un-named cable stations call "breaking news" are pretty silly. Besides, I prefer in-depth news rather than the soundbite of the moment type stories pushed by, well, un-named cable stations. Thanks for the reassurance that I am watching the right correct network.
Yes, if you like opinion-based, so-called "news" then MSNBS is certainly your station. BTW, I love how just about every liberal on this forum has jumped in to defend MSNBS. That's quite telling in itself.
I notice several of the MSNBC clowns regularly pop up on NBC, passing their ideology off as "real" news....
It sure sounds to me as if they're defending MSNBS's providing opinions in lieu of providing news. Seriously, though, if you want opinions tune in to MSNBS. Just don't expect any news.
I see no defense necessary. That would imply that I was doing something wrong. You watch who you choose to watch...and believe...and you seem to think that you do not have to defend that choice so why should I think that I have to defend mine? Again, was there an actual point to this thread? I doubt it.
How could MSBNC even have time to report real news? Seems all their time is spent on personal attacks, dividing the country & defending BO.
The funny part is how self-assured they are in their choice of information while they are just as self-assured that our choice is completely wrong. So their opinion is somehow more valid than our opinion based on??????..........Their opinion?
I keep reminding myself that facts are merely a consensus of opinion. I guess I'm doing that because I'm making a concerted effort to change the "facts" with the Big Bang theory...I want the consensus of opinion to shift to something rational....you know: My hypothesis.
LOL He's just a stupid-looking moron who keeps saying he hates FOX News. A picture is worth a thousand words.
You probably believe that he actually has a visible voice bubble too. Beside, why do you feel that he looks stupid? Seems perfectly fine to me other than the inserted Photoshop comment. What causes you to judge this young man so poorly?
If you knew him, you'd agree that he's as dumb as dirt. Trust me, there is no intellect in that Neanderthal-like head of his.
