Britain's "Iron Lady" Margaret Thatcher dies LONDON — Margaret Thatcher, the "Iron Lady" who dominated British politics for two decades, died on Monday following a stroke, a spokesman for her family said. She was 87. Britain's only woman prime minister, the tough, outspoken Thatcher led the Conservatives to three election victories, governing from 1979 to 1990, the longest continuous period in office by a British prime minister since the early 19th century. "It was with great sadness that I learned of Lady Thatcher's death," Prime Minister David Cameron said. "We've lost a great leader, a great Prime Minister and a great Briton." Thatcher died peacefully on Monday morning, said Lord Tim Bell, a spokesman for the Thatcher family. "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning," Bell said. A grocer's daughter with a steely resolve, she became loved and loathed in equal measure as she crushed the unions and privatized vast swathes of British industry. Queen Elizabeth said she was sad to hear the news of Thatcher's death and sent a message of sympathy to her family. http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20130408/US-BRITAIN-THATCHER/
That she was the first woman to become PM is about the only nice thing I can say about her, as I disagree with her "ironness" on virtually every social and economic issue. Besides, Copper Country iron is wayyy better than that weak stuff Britain churns out lol
Sorry, I have Finnish blood running through my veins, so if Thacher sucked, I'm not going to say she didn't just 'cause she died. Finnish people usually don't like to sugar-coat stuff just to be polite/respectful. BTW, that means that when I die, I want people to say "He was an ass****", 'cause I am an ass****. Society-wise, Finland is top-notch, with healthy and smart people, a technical-savvy population, who drink beer on public transportation. Though we do tend to be a bit nuts, we enjoy every minute of it. Margarette Thatcher was an equal to Reagan. Both sucked.
Apparently not everyone is going to miss the Iron Lady.. Hundreds of Scots mark Margaret Thatcher's death in Glasgow's George Square A CROWD of 300 people gathered in Glasgow city centre last night to toast the demise of Baroness Thatcher who died from a stroke at the Ritz hotel yesterday. Her death has divided the nation she used to govern. View attachment 1577
SOMEONE should learn what the "Private Message" function is and how it works. It's pretty simple, actually.
Were I you, I would be ashamed to post pictures like this. You get upset anytime we say anything negative about you lefties (usually playing the race card) and yet you extoll BS as this.
A. You aren't the boss of me either. B. It is a YouTube Video not a picture. C. YOU re-posted it. D. Thatcher was very controversial figure in her lifetime and was unapologetic about it. This video demonstrates how the people who lived under her policies felt about her and do feel about her death. It's not MY opinion, but it is a valid opinion unlike the character assassinations the Right-wingers routinely spew. I didn't care about Thatcher one way or the other. My beef was more with her counterpart in this country who had 15 of his administration indicted before he left office and all we have witnessed since that time was the re-writing of history that sugarcoats the truth about him. I'm not trying to unduly disparage Thatcher here but neither will I watch the Right-wing re-write history again to try and paint another one of their failures as something other than what it was. People respected her and people hated her. Both opinions should be open to examination.
I think it's perfectly OK for people to disparage Thatcher or any other political figure for that matter. They should have the right to peacefully protest and state their opinion (even if that opinion is to call her a "bitch") and not be harassed by the police such as in a socialist, police-state country like Venezuela: View attachment 1578 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/05/venezuelan-police-break-u_n_450824.html
A. Never said nor implied so. B. All I see is a picture. I will leave the video to you and yours. C. But I was not promoting it. D.To some, maybe. But that does not excuse their/your reaction. That is/was the purpose of my post. Apparently it went over your head.
History and the opinion of the American people have proven you wrong about Reagan. He's much more popular than your current "savior" Barack Obama who you once predicted will go down in history as one of the greatest presidents along with Abraham Lincoln. http://www.partisanlines.com/threads/newt-gingrich-for-president.3656/page-2#post-62504 View attachment 1579 View attachment 1580
It's not looking good for that "Lincoln/Obama" legacy that Little Joe predicted: View attachment 1581 Oh, and by the way, Reagan is still near the top in just about any poll of "best president ever".
