Ah yes, the big economic powerhouses of the Dakota's and Oklahoma. Wonder if they got their facts from Fox News?
Yeah! Three states with a combined population of one New York burrow and an average black population of 3.39 percent. Freedom is a wonderful thing especially when it has never been tested by the all white residents of those hick states. My question is: Why are the the rural states of this country so damn racist, homophobic, misogynistic, and generally ass backwards on just about every single social issue? They might as well be called red neck states rather than red states.
What do you mean by "might as well"...they ARE called the redneck states. I think an overall lack of education in those states plays a key role in their ignorance of..well, everything. Everything that is except making up Bible theology to suit their misgivings.
I don't know if it is just education. There are plenty of red states with good education systems after all. I think it isn't so much the lack of education as it is what is being taught and the influence of parental biases or cultural norms. I just came back from the "South" and the people are nice as pie but of course we didn't talk politics either. I think one-on-one people are pretty much the same from one part of the country to the next but politically the South for example is mired in the past. They are slow to want to change their past beliefs and unwilling to let anyone tell them that they should. When the Democrats decided to push civil rights in the 60's the coalition that had existed between the more dominate liberal Democrats and the southern racists they tolerated fractured. All the racists swallowed their hatred of the Republican Party, the party of Lincoln, and joined the party that had long been under the thumb of the wealthy class. Today, the Right is a combination of bigots and money because apart, either would be nothing. This unholy alliance seems to be fracturing and they seem perfectly willing to take as many people as they can down with them if not the entire country. Division is their only hope and they play the "us and them" card pretty frequently with the addition of the fear card. After all, fear foments division.
It is attitudes like that that keep the country divided. Absolutely zero facts and all insults is exactly how the left try to win the country? BTW, it was the Republicans who passed the Civil Rights bill while the Democrats try to stop it. We have had this discussion several time and you keep try to rewrite history.
Kennedy introduced it, Johnson signed it, and here are the vote totals....but spin it any way you feel you need to. Whatever makes you go to your grave happy and ignorant is fine with me. By party The original House version:[16] Democratic Party: 152–96 (61–39%) Republican Party: 138–34 (80–20%) Cloture in the Senate:[17] Democratic Party: 44–23 (66–34%) Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%) The Senate version:[16] Democratic Party: 46–21 (69–31%) Republican Party: 27–6 (82–18%) The Senate version, voted on by the House:[16] Democratic Party: 153–91 (63–37%) Republican Party: 136–35 (80–20%) By party and region Note: "Southern", as used in this section, refers to members of Congress from the eleven states that made up the Confederate States of America in the American Civil War. "Northern" refers to members from the other 39 states, regardless of the geographic location of those states. The original House version: Southern Democrats: 7–87 (7–93%) Southern Republicans: 0–10 (0–100%) Northern Democrats: 145–9 (94–6%) Northern Republicans: 138–24 (85–15%) The Senate version: Southern Democrats: 1–20 (5–95%) Southern Republicans: 0–1 (0–100%) Northern Democrats: 45–1 (98–2%) Northern Republicans: 27–5 (84–16%)
Everyone else except YOU seems to understand the facts I posted in #5. While the racist southern states were indeed allied with the same party that introduced, championed, and eventually passed the 1964 civil rights act, they quickly bolted their allegiance with the more progressive wing of the Democrat coalition and went straight into the Republican Party where they have remained to this day. Now, if you say that they were racists when they were allied with the northern Democrats, why is it so hard for you to admit that they are just as racist now that they are allied with the Republican Party? After all, they only left after the Democrats passed the civil rights act which was a very courageous act knowing that they would lose a large part of their coalition. Those states have been and are today racists in general but your little bit of knowledge of their history seems to end at a most convenient place don't ya think? You seem to think that the southern states were racists until they became Republicans as a result of the Democrats pushing through the civil rights act but then mysteriously weren't racists for some reason. You really have to pull off some impressive mental contortions to come to that conclusion or are seriously stupid. You know which side my money is on.
There you go talking out of your ass again. It's difficult to place any credence in a known racist such as yourself, but if it makes you feel good to spew your diarrhea, please help yourself. Racism, homophobia and misogyny tend to come up a lot in your conversations and you're shot down every time by the conservatives on this forum. Don't you EVER get tired of being proven wrong? Well, here we go again. According to the study in the OP, several criteria cover your "racist", "homophobic" and "misogynistic" assertions. Let's take a look at them, shall we: MARRIAGE ND, OK and SD all tied at #16 in the nation, while IL came in #37. CIVIL LIBERTIES ND #39, OK #8, SD #15 and IL (near the bottom of the barrel) at #42. PERSONAL (Personal freedom includes a variety of categories including victimless crimes, guns, tobacco and education). ND #20, OK #28, SD #46 and IL (at the absolute bottom of the barrel) at #50. DRUG CONTROL ND #22, OK #27, SD #36 and IL (yes, again scraping the bottom of the barrel) at #50. The topic of racism, homophobia and misogyny all fit within the categories of MARRIAGE, CIVIL LIBERTIES and PERSONAL. I added DRUG CONTROL because, as statistics prove, so-called "minorities" are at a very high risk of abusing drugs. But, it appears that the State of Illinois is doing little, if anything, to help them. Sorry, but it appears that the "progressive", "liberal" state of Illinois is doing a terrible job. Oklahoma has an overall ranking of #5 while Illinois has a ranking of #45 out of 50 states, so there's little to brag about if you live in Illinois. Yeah, granted, they have some good pizza in Chicago and they have the quaint legacy of Al Capone, but what else...?
Where is the freedom to have an abortion in this study? Where is the freedom to marry a same sex partner in this study? Where is the freedom for same sex couples to adopt children in this study? When you have a business dominated institute like the Mercatus Center defining "freedom" it doesn't take a genius to figure out which factors they might consider when defining an abstract concept like freedom. You're such a tool.
And there you go avoiding a lot of really good questions because you post out of your ass. When I care what a bunch of big business interests think about my freedom, I'll let you know.
