One thing I learned long ago is that it is far easier for a poor person to understand the life and culture of a rich person than it is for a rich person to understand the life and culture of a poor person. One reason this is so is that the poor want to become rich, while the rich want to become richer, but never poorer. It doesn't help that many rich people consider themselves poor either, as they don't actually have any experience being poor, so when they speak about the poor it's like listening to cows fart.
