OK! So what was he? He was an EX-(a lot of things), but right then he was a candidate which falls into a private citizen so far as I am aware.
Kind of reminds one of what Ronald Reagan did during the Iran hostage crisis. He sold out American hostages in order to win an election. I guess this is just typical Republican behavior.
Nixon was very much a public figure. No ordinary private citizen would even get the ambassador of a foreign country to take the phone call, let alone take action on their advice. I am sure that a lot (maybe even most) of our politicians, past and present, have done despicable deeds such as this.
Great story Pete. It's astounding what politicians will do to win an election. To derail the peace talks and prolong the occupation is criminal. I have a question for rlm though: Why couldn't a private citizen derail the peace talks? It's a ludicrous claim to say NO private citizen could have done so. What is your reasoning?
