Teenager is shot while haulng out garbage by elderly neighbor. HUM? Guns protecting homes again or guns being the problem? The only justification this guy needed to shoot a teenaged kid in cold blood was a suspicion that this neighbor kid had broke into his house. Yet one more 2nd Amendment advocate defending his right to be judge, jury, and execusioner. Guns aren't the solution, they are the problem. MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee man accused of killing his teenage neighbor has been found competent to proceed to trial. A mental health expert who examined John Spooner testified Monday that the 76-year-old is competent to help with his defense. Spooner is accused of fatally shooting 13-year-old Darius Simmons last May. Spooner believed that Darius had broken into his home. Defense attorney Franklyn Gimbel says he's concerned that Spooner's health has deteriorated to the point that he may not make it to trial in May. The victim's family pastor, Rev. Steve Jerbi, says the competency finding is what they expected. He says the Simmons family is still feeling a lot of pain and heartache over Darius' death. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...ons-competent-trial_n_2615909.html?ref=topbar
If that's the only justification he had, he's probably wrong. But, then we don't know all the facts of the case either. What makes you think he's a "2nd Amendment advocate"? Everyone has a right to bear a firearm in the U.S. Does that make him an "advocate"?
And the deaths continue. How Many People Have Been Killed by Guns Since Newtown? Slate partners with @GunDeaths for an interactive, crowdsourced tally of the toll firearms have taken since Dec. 14. By Chris Kirk and Dan Kois Posted Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at 9:00 AM ET Matched Deaths: 1519 or more since Newtown http://www.slate.com/articles/news_..._death_since_newtown_sandy_hook_shooting.html The site includes a map showing where these incidents took place, for those who may be interested. There is also a visualized tally, which is interactive, showing if the victim was a man, woman, teen, or child.
OH PLEASE! You say the same stupid thing every time. As a matter of fact, when the police showed up, this guy said, "Yeah, I did it." The facts are in and the guy admitted to the killing but again, you spew the same crap of not knowing all of the facts again and again. Maybe there just are never enough facts for gun nuts like you because you will never see someone with gun as guilty of anything. To you, he with the gun is always innocent especially if that guy shoots an unarmed teenager. You are pathetic and ignorant and the poster boy for everything that is wrong with this country.
Yes but I'm sure the gun nuts believe twice as many people were saved by guns during that time but they just can't prove it. Its not like they are a fact-baed group in the first place. They by an alternate type of math.
This looks like a clear cut case of racial murder to me. John Spooner - old white man. Darius Simmons - young black kid.
So, you've already made up your mind and, as usual, it's as closed as a steel trap. You wouldn't make a very good defense lawyer. As a purported liberal, where is your open-mindedness and liberal thinking? It's non-existent in this thread, for sure! Why do you always jump to conclusions? You're one of the most closed-minded persons I've ever encountered. So, the guy said he did it. Does that make him guilty? If you think so, you have sooooooo much to learn. But, it appears as if you've already found him guilty, Major Tetley.
Well then, you're more of an moron than I ever realized. If you believe that an admission of guilt, especially in the U.S. criminal justice system, means one is guilty then you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. As usual.
One thing I did notice is that it is total gun deaths. For example if the police shot someone to death, it is included. As are suicides. Like this in Pocatello, ID: http://www.idahostatejournal.com/members/article_9b4a80ea-6533-11e2-b089-001a4bcf887a.html He killed his girlfriend by bludgeoning her to death. Then was shot and killed by SWAT in a standoff. And this for Missoula, MT: http://missoulian.com/news/local/bo...cle_6561f9a2-52c0-11e2-9e37-0019bb2963f4.html Of a guy who blew his brains out in his truck. Still an interesting site but I would have preferred one for just gun murders.
That's the problem, Stu. These statistics never tell the truth. Yes, a suspect being shot by the police after bludgeoning his girlfriend is technically a homicide by firearm, but should it be included in statistics like these? Absolutely not. It doesn't give us the real picture, but that's probably what the person posting these statistics wants.
The site mentions the difficulties in figuring out how many deaths have occurred (since Sandy Hook), and did a great job on some specifics, like age (adult, teen, child) and gender, which is why I mentioned them originally. I agree that statistics on police actions, murders, and suicides would be helpful though. And you're welcome. Edited to add: It should be noted that the site states the figures are incomplete, suggesting a work-in-progress. I'd guess these figures would be updated at least weekly, and the addition of such detail (as noted above) would be a welcome improvement. Edited again to add that it has been updated already. I had 1519 dead, the total at the moment is 1545.
Sorry but Guns are not the problem, the problem is those who use guns. I keep saying it you need tougher rules in place to check folks before allowing them a gun.
Not did I say all would. Point being guns ARE the problem if you can;t predict what people will do them.
Here's an interesting video. Click on the link at the bottom and you can watch the video: View attachment 1478 http://nation.foxnews.com/piers-morgan/2013/01/10/piers-morgans-gun-claims-already-debunked
Does anyone here remember Sheriff Dupnik? Maybe he was right when he was talking about all the hate mongering in this country. The Southern Poverty Law Center should have known better than to post such liberal, hate-related data on their website. The ugly part is that it's still ON their website! Where is Sheriff Dupnik when we need him??? Southern Poverty Law Center website triggered FRC shooting The Family Research Council shooter, whopleaded guilty today to a terrorism charge, picked his target off a "hate map" on the website of the ultra-liberal Southern Poverty Law Center which is upset with the conservative group's opposition to gay rights. Floyd Lee Corkins II pleaded guilty to three charges including a charge of committing an act of terrorism related to the August 15, 2012 injuring of FRC's guard. He told the FBI that he wanted to kill anti-gay targets and went to the law center's website for ideas. At a court hearing where his comments to the FBI were revealed, he said that he intended to "kill as many as possible and smear the Chick-Fil-A sandwiches in victims' faces, and kill the guard." The shooting occurred after an executive with Chick-Fil-A announced his opposition to same-sex marriage. Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said that the Southern Poverty Law Center should take responsibility for the shooting and take down their hate map. "The day after Floyd Corkins came into the FRC headquarter and opened fire wounding one of our team members, I stated that while Corkins was responsible for the shooting, he had been given a license to perpetrate this act of violence by groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center which has systematically and recklessly labeled every organization with which they disagree as a 'hate group,'" he said. "Once again, I call on the SPLC to put an immediate stop to its practice of labeling organizations that oppose their promotion of homosexuality," said Perkins, adding, "Whether the SPLC continues to demonize those who hold to biblical morality or not, the Family Research Council will remain unequivocally committed to our mission of advancing faith, family and freedom." His comments had no impact at the law center. Their "hate map" still includes FRC. http://washingtonexaminer.com/south...ebsite-triggered-frc-shooting/article/2520748
