I was thinking "overpriced," "monolithic," "limiting," "lack of freedom," "mirage of quality," "dumbed down," "over-simplified," "exploitative," "market craze," "group-think," "non-innovation," etc.
I was equating the bread photo to 'White' , 'Bland', 'Not Particularly Good For You' and 'Out of Business'. As far as Apple and the Beatles...The first thing that comes to mind is 'Radical'. I will also say this...a lot of the Conservative Pics look like they are just about wealth, while quite a few of the Liberal pics look like a lot more fun. Kind of like... Liberal Conservative
I was equating the bread to "the staff of life" and to an item that no longer exists due directly to liberal mentality. Absolutely! Apple and the Beatles are about as radical as they come. However, "radical" and "liberal" are not necessarily interchangeable terms. Radical thinking can exist as a computer company re-inventing a product and creating an entirely new way of thinking and attitude toward that product. Or it can exist as a musical band exploring new heights, new sounds and new techniques while at the same time creating enjoyable, pleasant music. "Radical" doesn't have to mean aborting babies and trying to set bombs off. Those are liberal ideals, not radical ideals. Yes, quite often tasteful, material things cost money. But, like I said at the beginning, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If someone finds more beauty in a Susan B. Anthony dollar than a St. Gaudens gold piece, more power to them. Who is to say who is right and who is wrong? Personally, I'd rather drive the Cadillac in the OP than the fussy VW Bug, but that's just my personal, conservative taste. Obviously, someone enjoys driving that Bug. More power to them, too! All the things I've posted in this thread are simply my opinions in pictorial form. Everyone likes football! If I had posted football pics, I wouldn't have posted a pic of an NFL team under a "Liberal" heading, however. Too much big business involved, too many corporations, too much money, not enough union control by the NFLPA, owned by the 1%-er types, too much testosterone - not enough estrogen, not enough "minority" owners, etc. I would have posted something more along these lines: View attachment 1443 LIBERAL View attachment 1445 CONSERVATIVE
So conservatives are a high-school team named the Patroons, while liberals are the Chicago Bears? interesting.
Yes, quite often tasteful, material things cost money. I guess I am the kind of 'conservative' that values being left alone to decide my own future rather and believes in family first rather than the type that spends their life chasing wealth so they can drink a $2,000 bottle of wine or drive a $300,000 car. So, while they are free to do whatever they want with their short time on this planet, all the 'tasteful things' photos just imply people who have their priorities out of whack to me. But, that also pretty much defines the problem with this country...Accumulating wealth is our real religion.
Money is the real God to the elites on the Right. Not to say that everyone wealthy is ether a Rightie or that money is every wealthy person's God. It is only when money is valued above everything else, when money is the stick by which you measure everything, and money is held up as success over human compassion that many of us see the ugly side of the obsession with wealth. Obviously, the creator of this tread falls squarely if not just obliviously into that ugly category and continues to prove it post after ugly post. Yuck!
I guess my point is that those 'tasteful material things' do not bring up ideas of 'conservative' to me. No one should kid themselves...The liberals in Hollywood, the Music Industry, Sports, etc are drinking that same wine, driving those same cars, and living in those same houses. I don't begrudge them that if that is how they try to bring meaning to their lives. It is just that I believe it is an obsession with wealth and material things (which permeates our entire society) and not what 'conservative' means to me.
As I've said before, this is the greatest thread ever. It points out exactly what I've said all along about Righties like the ones we have here and that is their black and white thinking, their inabilty to see the gray aspects of complicated issues, their US vs. THEM mentality and their adherence to the superficial. If anything could have pointed it out clearer than a picture-based thread like this one, I certainly can't think what that might be. In their own "words" by their own hand so to speak. Bravo!
Actually, I couldn't agree more, Stu. Money rarely equates success or happiness. There are wealthy conservatives who have absolutely no taste whatsoever. The same with wealthy liberals. My point was to demonstrate that conservatives and liberals have a different sense of "beauty in the eye of the beholder" (tongue planted firmly in cheek, of course), regardless of economic status. I suspect you realize that whereas liberals like JoeNation never will.
I wondered how long it would take to see the cowardly backtracking. In my eyes, that's beautiful. I guess that you never will convince me that you are better than me or are superior just because you believe you are. Go ahead and tell yourself whatever it is you need to tell yourself.
