The 112th Congress Was The Least Effective And Most Disliked In History

And lest we forget, run by Republicans. Yes, Boehner is a complete failure and so is his party. With so many problems this country has to deal with, we are saddled with a Republican run congress that has no ability to do anything but play politics.

The failure to negotiate a successful conclusion to the fiscal cliff was a truly fitting end to the 112th Congress, which was the least effective and most disliked legislative body in years.
Congress had a year to delay the impact of the fiscal cliff — a crisis that this Congress itself initiated after the failure of the debt ceiling negotiation and the subsequent failure of the congressional super-committee — and still failed to do so in time.

The U.S. Congress passed 219 bills that were signed into law in the 112th session, a dizzying low compared to the 111th Congress (383 bills) and the 110th (460 bills), according to MSNBC.
For a remarkable comparison, Harry Truman's "Do-nothing" Congress passed 906 bills from 1947-1948.
U.S. history professor Daniel Feller told NPR that "I think you'd have to go back to the 1850s to find a period of congressional dysfunction like the one we're in today."
This is the first time the House and Senate were forced to hold roll call votes between Christmas Day and New Year's Eve since the 1970s, according to the New York Times.
During this session, Congress also hit record lows when it comes to Congressional Approval Rating. The body's approval rating has remained in the mid to low teens for months.
Worth noting is that Congress has just received a salary raise, and did have a 91% incumbent retention rate.
This post was edited on January 2 to include the incumbency statistic for the 112th Congress.

Funny, but I did not realize Boehner was running the Senate also.

    BTW, you keep bringing this same topic up and blaming the Republicans. Yet I am still waiting for you to answer my question (from you bringing up this topic 3 or 4 times ago);

You truly show your ignorance of civics every time you post. No wonder you make such a good Rightie, you already have everything necessary to blindly follow those that manipulate the low-information among us. But for some unknown reason, you think that I should suffer your idiocies and treat you as I would treat a rational thinking person. I really have nothing to say to people like you. I find you intentionally ignorant, angry, and incapable of rational thought. If you weren't always trying to slay windmills to make yourself feel relevant, you might actually learn something, but just like Don Quixote, you can't reason with a crazy man. You keep trying to slay windmills and I'll keep ignoring you. Next.

I see. You have absolutely no valid response, so you throw out insults. Back to your old tactics. You cannot support you argument so you try to tear down the messenger.

An iPad isn't "someone" it is something which has an incomparable platform for posting attachments. You're someone and you're an idiot.

Right-wingers do tend to love speaking in absolute terms. The problem with that is that the world is far more relative than absolute so you start off with a basic misunderstanding of the world and then try to lecture others from a false perspective.

Hey! He demonstrated some vague form of intelligence. At least he has learned that his Ipad isn't human.

I understand the dislike part but...Is the number of laws passed really the measure of a good Congress? After 200 plus years, how many laws should they be passing each year? Obviously budgets and the occasional new program that we hadn't though of in the previous 200 years or something pertaining to new technology. Of course some unexpected disaster relief. And then...?

Just because I find it interesting, here is a list of Bills Congress passes.

    http://www.congress-summary.com/B-112th-Congress/Laws_Passed_112th_Congress_Seq.html

Seems many fall under just a few categories...

    1. Naming Buildings and other things...why don't the people of the city get to name their buildings? It is not like anyone is ever really going to call it the "Robert Boochever United States Courthouse."
    2. Extending Laws Passed Previously...This seems like 'busy work' or padding the numbers at least.
    3. Piecemeal Funding Bills...because they can't manage to pass 1 law for an actual budget
    4. Minor Fixes to Laws Passed By Previous Congresses...which a Congress in the future will probably then make a minor fix to.

    ;)

Love that last one. In order to "make Sopuruchi Chukwueke eligible for permanent U.S. residence", you have to have at least a House report, and 2 CBO reports - one each for the House and Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

Sounds like we are up to about a dozen or 2 needed laws every year.

How about this one...The country could not have survived without it, I am sure.

A bill to authorize the Architect of the Capitol to establish battery recharging stations for privately owned vehicles in parking areas under the jurisdiction of the Senate at no net cost to the Federal Government.

OOPS! Sorry, but we cannot do without that one. Obama must have his green energy to employ the millions presently out of work.
