When does this craziness end? How many shootings have we had this week? When is it time to talk about gun ownership in this country? When will that discussion happen?

NEWTOWN, Conn. — An official with knowledge of a shooting at a Connecticut elementary school says 27 people are dead, including 18 children.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still under way.
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.
A shooting at a Connecticut elementary school Friday left the gunman dead and at least one teacher wounded and sent frightened pupils into the parking lot.
The shooter was killed and apparently had two guns, a person with knowledge of the shooting said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was still under way.
It wasn't clear how many people were injured at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.
A dispatcher at the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps said a teacher had been shot in the foot and taken to Danbury Hospital. Andrea Rynn, a spokeswoman at the hospital, said it had three patients from the school but she did not have information on the extent or nature of their injuries.
Brenda Lebinski, whose 8-year-old daughter attends the school, was among the parents who raced to check on their children.
"I saw her and it was the happiest moment of my life," she said.
Stephen Delgiadice said his 8-year-old daughter heard two big bangs and teachers told her to get in a corner. His daughter was not harmed.
"It's alarming, especially in Newtown, Connecticut, which we always thought was the safest place in America," he said.
Lisa Terifay, who was holding her two children outside the school, said she was stunned.
"I still can't believe it's happened in my town," she said.
The superintendent's office said the district had locked down schools in Newtown, about 60 miles northeast of New York City. Schools in neighboring towns also were locked down as a precaution.
State police said Newtown police called them around 9:40 a.m. A SWAT team was among the throngs of police to respond.
Photos from the scene showed young students — some crying, others looking visibly frightened — being escorted by adults through a parking lot in a line, hands on each other's shoulders.
Connecticut's governor was on the scene in Newtown. The White House said President Barack Obama was notified of the shooting and was receiving updates.

I didn't realize there was a discussion concerning gun ownership. It's the law of the land.

18 children folks! 18 school kids! If you can simply dismiss this as a 2nd Amendment right, or compare it to a bunch of undeveloped cells in a woman's womb, I feel sorry for you because there is a world of difference. You have my sympathy and disgust at the same time.

What part of this is politics Clembo? Please point it out to me or I will also accept an apology. Don't ever lump me in with idiots like those two. I don't apologize for these shooters by offering 2nd Amendment excuses or use the existence of legal abortion as a justification for people like this. The other two do frequently. I understand your outrage and lashing out at me but I am not nor have I tried to politicize this shooting. I believe that guns are the problem not the solution to these shootings. You'll find the other two here most likely favor arming 4th graders.

I understand 18 children were murdered by this psychopath. They have more sympathy from me than you'll ever know. But, when did the actions of a psychopath turn into a discussion about the constitutional right to bear arms? YOU are the one who brought it up - read your first post! You're disgusting! Shouldn't you be condemning his actions instead of the tool he used?

YOU are the one who politicized it (read the last sentence in your OP). I merely asked, "WHEN did the discussion turn political"? I think it's disgusting that anyone would turn this into a political discussion.

Oh, I did, did I? Do you even know what you posted in your OP? Here, I'll remind you:

This is from your original post, you stupid, dumb idiot. YOU are the one who attempted to politicize this incident. Well, I'm not going to sink to your level. There are 18 murdered children at the hands of a psychopath and all you want to do is discuss the 2nd amendment. You make me absolutely, putridly sick.

I will give no apology JoeNation. To anyone. Just an opinion.

Here's my problem Joe and you know we usually get along.

"Here are the victims of your precious 2nd Amendment rights. What about their rights?"
    Valid point? Maybe.
Poor taste? Yes, I think so and it only brought more poor taste.

If I'm not mistaken we really ARE talking about a tragedy here. A bunch of innocent kids being killed by a whack job.

The first two responses didn't thrill me obviously.

Not real bright considering the circumstances. My opinion again.

Just plain stupid and childish. Once again my opinion.

The kids are still dead for anyone that doesn't understand that.

Sorry clembo, but that's the nature of the beast. All of us beasts here have our own belief systems and we express those beliefs in different ways.

Being that this site is used almost exclusively by a small handful of individuals, each with their own unique beliefs, it's understandable that things like this recent killing spree will bring out the beasts in us all.

It was a senseless killing, as all senseless killings are, but even more horrific since children were the victims. That kind of thing is going to rile people up against guns, and that in turn will rile the second amendment people. IMO, both have merit, but neither are completely in the right. That doesn't matter though, since both will argue indefinitely and vehemently that they alone are correct. Let 'em...eventually they'll tire themselves out enough that we can move on.

What does the right to keep and bear arms have to do with handgun ownership?

The sacrifice of innocents is just part of life in America. It's the price that we are willing to pay for our "rights". I should think we'd be accustomed to it by now.
