Further evidence that the Right-winger's relentless march towards the extreme and inevitable fade into oblivian will result in the defection of anyone sane and reasonable. Welcome abroad the sanity express sir! Next stop, the center. Charlie Crist, Democrat: Former GOP Governor Changes Party Affiliation Posted: 12/07/2012 10:51 pm EST Former Republican Governor Charlie Crist has officially joined the Democratic Party, he announced on Friday evening. Crist, who served as governor of Florida from 2007 to 2011, left the Republican Party after losing a Senate primary battle to Marco Rubio in 2010 -- switching his party affiliation to independent in order to run against now-Senator Rubio in the general election. (Crist lost that race by 19 points.) The change became official at a White House Christmas reception, the Tampa Bay Times reports, where "President Obama greeted the news with a fist bump." Crist was a high-profile campaign surrogate for Obama this past election cycle, speaking at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte this September in support of the president. "I didn't leave the Republican party," Crist said in his speech. "It left me." According to the Times, the move foreshadows Crist's next big political undertaking: The widely expected move positions Crist, 56, for another highly anticipated next step: announcing his candidacy for governor, taking on Republican incumbent Gov. Rick Scott and an untold number of Democrats who would challenge him for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
I think this says as much about the direction the Democratic Party has taken as it does about the state of the Republicans. The Democrats now provide a comfortable place for those who not all that long ago were in the Republican mainstream and haven't changed their views one bit. As Crist said, he didn't leave the Party, it left him.
Great point. God only knows where those extremists and their legions of sheep will end up but I have heard people compare them to the former Whig Party of old. The Whig Party: Founded 1833 Dissolved 1860
So now we have the Republicans, aka the Whigs. And the Democrats, aka the Republicans. There is no Left left in Washington. There isn't even a center.
I can certainly empathize with someone who feels that a political party has gone somewhere they cannot follow. But... Lost as a Republican, Lost as an Independent, now going to try for political office as a Democrat. This sounds more like the story of a political whore more than anything else. And a desperate one.
Well, no. Lost as a Republican, not uncommon for any number of reasonable Republicans to lose to some crazy Tea Party backed whacko. Lost as an Independent, again how many Independents do we actually have winning national offices? Running as a Democrat? I guess that it can't be all that difficult to beat Rick Scott. That guy looks and acts like a fallace personified.
Which kind of proves my point. He is just using whatever party or not that he thinks provides the path of least resistance. How many leopards really change their spots...
Cast-offs & crooks seem to comprise the dimocRAT party these days! How about a ticket of Crist & Jackson, Jr for the bad guys in 2016 (unless John Edwards makes a comeback, of course)?
I still think they should run Jimmy Carter again. Or how about a Dukakis/Mondale ticket? I think any ticket with Biden at the top would be a lot of fun to watch, too. Perhaps he can get Rod Blagojevich to run as his VP. That is unless John Edwards makes his comeback, of course... Al Gore's sitting around getting fat and sassy.. how about him? Or even loser John Kerry... Old Sniper-Fire Hillary could run, but she'd probably lose in the primaries again... oh well...
Let's go through some recent WRONG Presidential hopefuls....just for fun's sake: Michele Bachmann. "Crazy Eyes" hailed from a Democratic family and was a supporter of Jimmy Carter, but of course she went insane and joined the WRONG, beginning with that most horrible of Presidents, Reagan. Religion played a big part in that, and she dived in deep into that pit of insanity. Her Evangelical Lutheran background was an issue for her in another way, since they (the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod) believe the pope is the Antichrist, so in June, 2011, she distanced herself from them. She's since become a darling of the tea-party loons, the insanely conservative arm of the WRONG party. One of my favorite quotes from her: That comment was made during an interview on Chris Matthews. The comment is in reference to Obama's associations with people like Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers. I like it because she ignored her own association with a church that believes the pope is the Antichrist. It's fine for her, but not others...typical WRONG hypocritical BS. And I thought Sarah Palin was nuts! Moving on, we have Herman "If you want a job, I get one first" Cain. Next! How about Newt "I'm sleeping with this woman now, dear...unless she gets cancer or something... then I'll have to move on to a healthier woman, again" Gingrich. Before there was Edwards, there was this trash. Which one is still around? Go ahead, take a guess. The WRONG continues to back this loser while hypocritically referring to Edwards as a possible Democrat pick for 2016? Idiots. Rick Santorum. Another religious fanatic that the WRONG backs. Separation of church and state be damned. Yet they call Obama a Muslim? OK, apparently it's the separation of church and state when it's not "our" religion. Rick Perry. As dumb as dumb gets. NEXT! Mitt Romney. A wealthy elitist who refused to disclose anything to do with how his wealth was amassed, or even how wealthy he is. No conflict of interest there, in the WRONG's eyes. I could mention Ron Paul...but why.
I have to say that when I first saw the thread title I read it as "Christ Switches parties. It was only a few seconds but, I thought "Why would Christ ever have anything to do with the Republicans"...which changed to "Oh, he must have been an Independent and switched to the Democrats." Then I thought maybe he said he was gay. Then I wondered if the first party had run out of booze or something, and maybe he was drunk but not drunk enough, or maybe he had hit on the homeowner's wife and was chased out by a biker gang raging on meth and a hatred for the 99%ers. Then I realized it was "Crist", not "Christ".
