Says the Dutch. I know I've said some things about the Dutch recently, what with the surge in recent weeks of (seemingly) Dutch people selling their vitameatavegamin woody makers and such, but I have no real ill-will towards the country, especially with their recent reversal of the ill-conceived anti-marijuana restrictions enacted in the southern areas that crushed local businesses. I'll add this to my respect-o-meter as well:

I'm aware of many countries with such laws, notably Thailand, who had some international attention when they prosecuted a guy who, while living in the U.S. many years earlier, insulted the queen, in the authorities eyes.

Here, being disrespectful to a cop will likely result in a public disorder-type charge. It depends on the cop, of course, but they tend to abuse that power a lot.

Ahhhhh, now we get to the heart of it. The Dutch were the first that I can recall who printed images of their (Muslim's) prophet, and I very very very much respect that. People forget that it's absolutely our right to ignore the demands from others that we respect their beliefs, especially when those demands are coupled with threats. Strike back, don't be cowards. The Dutch aren't. The French aren't. America is. Respect isn't deserved under the threat of violence. That said, I got nothing against violence lol...figure it out, or don't, I can't force you to understand it, and that's the point.

Does the anti-blasphemy crowd actually think God cares what we say about him? Being concerned with what people say about you is a human thing. No self respecting deity would give a rip. Blasphemy laws reflect the insecurity of the faithful and their need for control. They have nothing to do with God.

 

My deity shrugs and laughs a lot. Oh, he also likes to prank people...if I ask him nicely, of course. With that in mind, *trip*. *That one was for Speaker Boehner (pronounced "boner", he knows why!).

The Daves of the world could very well have killed off the post office before I get to it. So how does it work if I mail a letter from, say, Korea, or some other place where the trappings of and services of civilization are still in place and it lands in the US and there is no US Postal Service to pick it up and carry it to its destination? Paypal, no. As for pigeons, a pigeon took a dump on me in Seattle one time and this has prejudiced me against the lot. I know it's wrong to condemn a whole flock based on the execrable behavior of one, but there it is. Google might be an option.
