Good to see you've bounced back from your messiah's crushing defeat at the polls, David. I was beginning to worry that you'd never get out of your funk. ;)

If I'm right, you may have some new playmates soon. A couple of them seem to agree with your point of view, so cheer up, you may be getting an extra anti-Obama-clause gift this Christmas.

History IS important. Coin has pointed out a few tragedies that should never be repeated for sure.

The problem I see is using history to say "look what the Democrats did" or "look what the Republicans did".
There are times when I think it is warranted so everyone understands me on this.

Both Democrats and Republicans have made major mistakes and the parties have certainly changed over the years. In recent history it would seem to me not to be for the better.

Heck, even I have resorted to using "history" in this thread. I didn't do it to bash a political party however.
I gave a bit of "history" in regards to the Iriqois tribe(s). It was in response to a remark about Native Americans that I took as rather disparaging to say the least.

Check the title of this thread and read the OP folks. I'd say it's about history for sure.

I read it and thought "what a nice effort to attack socialism or even the concept of socialism".
Considering the person that originally posted it I thought "well it's certainly not a surprise".

Still I wondered if those were his own words. So when I had time I did a bit of digging and it didn't take long.

Bingo!!! Turns out to be blatant plagiarism of none other than Rush Limbaugh.

So I replied. The OP hasn't been back since.

    Imagine that.

I have no issue with using history to make a point. It's the using of history in such idiotic ways that I find obnoxious. I mean dismissing the entire issue of racism in this country by saying that we are all African Americans because it is theorized that early human began to emigrate out of Africa some 125 thousand years ago is well, one stretch of historical idiocy. But it is regularly argued here by a certain someone that shall remain nameless... *cough* Coin.
Also, viewing contemporary events through the lens of history is often a fool's venture unless you are an avid student of that time period. Even then, it is difficult to capture the flavor of the period in question. The parallels from one time period to another are loose at best. History is a coarse lesson not a fine indicator of current events.

Yes, you do. Unless it's used to further only YOUR narrative.

There you go again... dismissing the entire history of the homo sapiens species. If you think we didn't come from Africa, just where DO you think we came from? I'm open to listen to any valid arguments.

Being an "avid student of a time period" doesn't mean necessarily that you turn a blind eye to all other events in history. We are all players in this great thing called "life" and our history is what ties us together. In life, just as in politics (believe it or not), one historical event leads to another... and another... and another... and so on. So, casually dismissing history is truly the "fool's venture". Better that you embrace it, accept it, learn from it, use it to your advantage and don't repeat the mistakes of the past.

You constantly try to refute arguments that I am not making. The saddest part is that you are even failing to accomplish this.

Yes, yes we know. That's what disgusts us.

You obviously assume that the history of our entire human existence has no bearing on who we are today. Fool. It has a very forceful impact on how we interact with our fellow humans (which, among those interactions is racism, unfortunately).

Hey, what can I say? I'm a very intelligent, creative, artful being. Deal with it.
Actually, it was a reference to a quote from Edmund Burke (who probably got it from someone else in the past if the truth were known). See? People from our past are still influencing us even to this day! History is not your enemy, Little Joe. Open your mind and explore a bit.

While arguing with you tit-for-tat is interesting, I'll just stay on this planet if you don't mind.

That is actually not proven, it is just the most generally accepted theory, though the multi-regional theory actually has more supporting DNA evidence.

You can call it a moment of creativity Joe, but it seems more like when a retarded kid throws up the crayons and glue he ate and calls it art.
