House Republicans formally oppose potential cabinet nomination for Rice

Nearly 100 House members have told President Obama they would oppose his nomination of Ambassador Susan Rice as the next secretary of State, saying her “misleading statements” following the fatal attacks on U.S. outposts in Libya have caused “irreparable damage to her credibility.”

The 97 House Republicans informed the president in one-page letter Monday.

Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said in TV interviews five days after the fatal Sept. 11 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that the strikes were “spontaneous” and sparked by outrage over an anti-Islamic video.

Three days later, National Counterterrorism Director Matthew Olsen acknowledged the attacks were acts of terror and that Al Qaeda might have played a role.

“Ambassador Rice is widely viewed to have either willfully or incompetently misled the American public on the Benghazi matter,” says the letter to Obama, signed by such House Republican members Jeff Duncan, South Carolina, and Louie Gohmert, Texas.

“We believe that making her the face of the U.S. foreign policy … would greatly undermine your desire to improve U.S. relations with the world,” the letter continues.

Democrats have repeatedly defended Rice, saying she was merely using talking points gleamed from unclassified CIA reports on the attacks – in which U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other American were killed.
President Obama has been Rice’s most ardent defender, calling attacks on her “outrageous” and urging Republican leaders to “go after me,” not her.

Why would BO ever consider nominating her? She's either dead up embroiled in a cover-up or she's stupid enough to believe the Obama lie that a Youtube video is to blame for our consulate being attacked. Either way she's a loser!

Back again, just as wrong as ever. Were you cuddled up in the basement wrapped in a blanket sucking your thumb while watching Fox 24/7 since the election? By the way, Obama won! Did Fox mention that?

What Republicans want others to believe:

    Muslims love anti-Muslim videos.
    Democrats don't care about America's ambassador's.
    Water is dry.

    Anything else?

I didn't say she didn't care, in fact I'm sure she does care. But, facts are facts & she can't un-ring that bell.

I'm positive that you would be defending McCain's administration under the same circumstances...not that the Democrats would have mounted much (if any) of a demand for an investigation though.

People died and the first thing Republicans did was turn it into a conspiracy. It's wrong. Period. Instead of supporting America, they are kicking it in the nuts.

The truth is people wanted to know why our people died. Put the Obama devotion aside & think. How did the administration not see this attack coming? The consulate had been threatened & attacked previously then we're caught off guard when attack happens on 9/11 of all days? Really? We've all seen the videos by now...read the official accounts, read the transcripts.

I disagree. You want it to be true to justify your hatred for Democrats. As I said earlier, with McCain as President, and the situation identical, your response would be opposite of what it is now. Mine wouldn't be. For me, to see Democrats attack a Republican President like this under the same scenario would be sickening, and I'd speak out against them doing that.

Threats are accessed and responded to constantly. Leading up to 9-11 those threats were aimed everywhere Americans (and it's allies) were. To believe what you say, I'd have no choice but to conclude the State Department didn't want to address those threats, that they didn't take them seriously. That's idiotic, and I refuse to believe that without concrete proof. Republicans are working hard on that, as they always do, but in a few decades they'll give up.

This was, and is, political. It was a means to convince people to vote for Romney/Ryan, nothing more. It's wrong, and you know it.

It's one thing to be pro-American, it's another to be pro-Republican, as Reagan was. That's what the problem here is. Reagan had it half-right when he said Republicans should not speak ill of each other. It would have been 100% right if he had included all Americans.

What this does is attack Americans for political gain, and that is dividing the country further. We'll never be able to improve American's lives if all we do is try to make our preferred party look good and the opposing party look bad. I am partisan, but I'm American first.

When Republicans behave this awfully, I become MORE partisan. Your party is losing people, me included, every time they behave so irrationally and hatefully.

For the record: I didn't vote for Obama this year. I would have had I believed my State was iffy though.

So you wanna play "what-ifs"? I don't believe this would have happened with someone stronger leading our foreign policy. I believe virtually anyone else in charge would have picked up on the obvious & done more to assure the consulate was safe.

Do you mean like the Republicans that cut funding for the State Department? Would they have done more? Obama himself has a far better foreign policy record than Bush, Daddy Bush, and Reagan put together. Just because you want him to fail so badly, doesn't make it so idiot boy.

Try spending less time glued to Fox while stroking your gun, and by gun I mean.....
