Israeli military, Gaza militants trade fire as death count mounts

    November 15, 2012
JERUSALEM – Gaza militants, reeling from an Israeli military operation, have been pounding southern Israel with rocket fire Thursday, killing three Israelis. It's the second day of intense Israeli air raids on militant targets, and Israel is threatening to invade the Palestinian territory.

The casualties were the first since Israel launched its operation on Wednesday with the assassination of Hamas' top military commander.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said two Israeli men and a woman died after a rocket struck their four-story apartment building in the southern Israeli town of Kiryat Malachi. A 4-year-old boy was seriously wounded in and two babies lightly wounded in the strike.

Since the Israeli operation started, a total of 13 Palestinians, including four civilians, have been killed and more than 100 people wounded, according to Palestinian medical officials. Among the dead were two children.

Israelis and Gazans both holed up in their homes Thursday in anticipation of heavy fighting on the second day of the military's campaign.

Israeli aircraft, tanks and naval gunboats pounded the Hamas-ruled coastal strip and rocket salvoes thudded into southern Israel.

The operation, launched after days of rocket fire from the coastal territory, was Israel's most intense attack on Gaza since its full-scale war there four years ago.

The Israeli military said the some 20 airstrikes were part of a major offensive dubbed "Operation Pillar of Defense," according to a Reuters report.

Israeli officials said Wednesday that a ground invasion was a strong possibility in the coming days if Hamas didn't rein in the rocket fire. Mid-morning Thursday, there was no sign such an invasion might be beginning. But the Israeli military was cleared to call up special reserve units -- a sign the operation might broaden.

"The military will continue acting to establish deterrence against Hamas and to return the calm," Defense Minister Ehud Barak said during a tour of southern Israel. He praised citizens for coping with the "tough moments to come."

Gaza schools were ordered closed until the operation ends, and most of the territory's 1.6 million people hunkered down close to home, venturing out only to buy food, fuel and other basic supplies.

Hamas announced a state of emergency in Gaza, evacuating all its security buildings and deploying its troops away from their locations.

Israeli aircraft dropped leaflets on several locations in Gaza early Thursday, warning Gazans to stay away from Hamas, other militants and their facilities.

But the real question is how will Fox blame Obama?

No, the real question is how will MSNBC praise Obama?

Well, he is OUR president. Did you hear that? I said OUR president. Say it with me... President Obama. Ahhhhhhh!

I have no problem saying PRESIDENT OBAMA. He was elected fair and square. I respect the democratic process that elected him, I respect the office he holds, but I don't respect the man. I don't respect his ideals and I don't respect the media that coddles him. Our country has chosen many bad presidents in the past, we did so in 2008 and 2012 and we'll probably do it again. But, yes, you are correct when you say he's OUR president. What is your point?

... and Israel and Hamas are still on the brink of war.

But you do respect the media that regularly lies about the president for some reason and then wonder why real journalists don't cover false news stories manufactured entirely by lunatic conspiracy theorists for purely partisan reasons.

Not at all. I respect news outlets that have the integrity to report stories that may not be reported by the so-called "mainstream media". Especially when the "mainstream media" resorts to putting a decidedly partisan slant on their coverage (e.g., NBC News' coverage of the Benghazi attacks and whitewashing of subsequent developments). NBC Benghazi Coverage. I don't read only FOX News, I also read a lot of the liberal news. To be informed and make your own judgments, you need to listen to both sides, not just the liberal outlets.

Your approach reminds me of the Republicans who bashed Woodward and Bernstein during Watergate. It was disingenuous of them at that time and it's disingenuous of the Democrats to bash FOX now. If our president or Secretary of State did something wrong, don't you want it revealed? You're not going to read anything negative on MSNBC regarding Benghazi, Obama and Hillary. There's just too much going on with that story to sweep it under the rug like MSNBC has done. I'd like to hear both sides of the story before I make a judgment.

So you only like the news that is slanted in the direction you agree with? You are basically saying that the only bias you can tolerate is your own. You are after all, watching a very biased news source so I have to ask, are there any news sources that aren't biased out there?

I think many "news" sources are biased. That's why I read a mix of them and then form an opinion. I think, however, that MSNBC is much more biased than FOX.

Even after watching Fox lie for months about the election and even after MSNBC turned out to be exactly right?

Remember when I said that I had heard that the media was hyping the closeness of the election and in reality it wasn't going to be close and Obama was going to win hands down? Do you remember me saying that? Well, I heard several MSNBC pundits say exactly the same thing and I believed them. And were they right or was Fox right saying Romney would win? You were suckered by Fox while MSNBC seems to have sent me in the right direction. So who is really more biased. Hum?

Here, I'll post it for you.

They've been at it before, of course. But this one might be different. Egypt is in its wonderful post 'Arab Spring' phase. Me thinks the BroHood might not react the same way Hose-knee did.

They do like their pictures. Actually penning out and articulating an idea, now that's difficult for them. Let's hope they get that new box of crayons they wanted for Christmas.
