Hampden-Sydney College Responds To Obama Reelection With Racial Unrest

Racism from Right-wingers? Who could have seem that coming. Oh, everyone!


RICHMOND, Va. -- Officials say about 40 students at a small all-men's college in Virginia shouted racial slurs, threw bottles and set off fireworks outside the Minority Student Union within hours after President Barack Obama's re-election.

Hampden-Sydney College President Chris Howard said in an email to parents Thursday that the disturbance early Wednesday also included threats of physical violence.

Howard is the college's first African-American president. He said in the email that he was disappointed in the "harmful, senseless episode" and that bigotry has no place on the campus of 1,080. About 9 percent are black.

The racially tinged disturbance is the second reported protest sparked by Obama's re-election. A protest at the University of Mississippi in Oxford late Tuesday involved about 400 people who shouted racial slurs. Two people were arrested.

You can keep your outdated terms African-American or black; I will defer to using the proper terms humans, persons or people without adding a prejudicial identifier to them based solely on skin color or perceived heritage. The fact is that these college young republicans are once again saying things out loud that they are only supposed to say behind closed doors. Just like Romney did with his 47% comment.

Minority student unions are getting a little old , hopefully they will join the rest of the student union . I could see the need for minority unions in the '50s and 60s but not now .

Of course you have loads of evidence to back up that statement, right? I mean specific instances of the Democratic party engaging in or even just officially supporting violence to preserve segregation as a tactic of the party, not violence perpetrated by some particular thug who happened to be a Democrat.

It's really their own business if they want to be racists, but at least don't be hypocritical about it. There's nothing worse than being racist AND hypercritical! Well, the ONLY thing worse is being racist, hypocritical and a Democrat.

Are you really that clueless on matters of history? Read up on the Civil Rights movement on the 60's & it's Republican leader Martin Luther King. Heck, the "old white guys" the dimocRATs despise today are the same guys who, in their younger days, battled the dims & their efforts to preserve segregation.

 

Seriously, rzage, read up on history. If you don't already know how racist the Democrats were (and still are in many cases), you might be surprised. It's shocking what a segregational/racist past they have and many Democrats today still share those same ideals.

 

It doesn't matter how many times you correct these fools with regard to history and recent events such as GOP Governors suppressing minority voters, they not only have there own math system, their own language, they also have their own unique take on history based entirely on God knows what.

I think the fact that they are almost entirely shunned by the vast, vast majority of minority voters is all the proof you need to look at to determine their party's long history of indulging and catering to racist attitudes.

Tell me why the most racist region of this country, the South, is completely red. Old men with 2 dollar haircuts afraid to lose their white privilege.

 

Racism can be found anywhere but only the Right caters to it openly.
