Strange Human Senses

After two days of fairly lurid weather-- a day of 20-mph wind gusting
over 30 followed by a night that was worse followed by a day that was
_worse_, gusting over 40, followed by a calm night last night but with
the temperature in the single digits F-- today was just the usual gray
Ohio River Valley day, just below freezing all day.

And I had to go run some errands awhile ago, and, while I was out, noticed
heavy traffic, and the grocery store was all a-bustle.

And also noticed a very very fine snow, which could hardly even be seen
or felt at first, and has remained extremely fine and steady, but has now
accumulated in the course of just a couple of hours to over one half-inch.

And do you know what? I think all those humans running around that I saw
_knew_ that this snow was coming and was going to accumulate.

Weird.

I've run into quite a bit of your lot lately, and, after giving a nod
of understanding, can only say that I am still at a tender age and
have many mistakes yet to regret. Not that there isn't a part of me
that wants to give it up, but I'm afraid if I do I'll be surrendering
myself to the reality that I am getting.............. old.

As you get older you come to the realization that it is all about Red
Wine and that all your previous life spent drinking mass quantities of
hard liquor and beer were simply in preparation for learning that the
real deal is Red Wine. Specifically Pinot Noir (aka Burgundy to the
French, NUKE THE FRENCH). That you find yourself spending hundreds of
dollars on special refrigerators to store your Red Wine. Then spending
even more money acquiring special bottles of Red Wine so that you
might put them in these refrigerators for several years. Then you wait
those years as that Red Wine lays on its side, cooled to 55f, rotated
every 6 months (corks dry out) aging to perfection. Then at the end of
those years of waiting you open this bottle of Red Wine knowing you
have cared for it as if it were your child, that this bottle of wine
will be a perfect complement to that Pork Loin with Gorgozola Sauce,
only to find that the bottle youhad so pain stakingly cared for had
turned to crap in the intervening years because the cork was
contaminated by one mold spore. So you pour this valuble red liquid
down the drain, hop in the car, drive to Beverages and More and pick
up a $9.00 bottle of Zinfandel and drink that instead.

The moral of the story, kill your kids before they get old enough to
be contaminated by mold spores.

For me (I'm 45), it has nothing to do with age. I just don't enjoy it like
I used to. So logically; quit and save some $$$. And I don't miss it at
all. Getting older may very well ~be~ part of why I don't enjoy it as much,
but no matter. I like it better having more of a clear head.
