It's this decadent "Tune in, turn on, turn off" philosophy going around.

I reloaded my browser and contributed yet more wealth to the Evil Google

Pan 0.14 won't let you do that, and I was too lazy to telnet it.

Speaking of Evil Empires, what about Microsoft trying to buy Yahoo?

This seems especially remarkable in the light of Microsoft's record of
conformance to court orders from its last anti-trust case in the US (you
know, with regard to little things like opening the Windoze API, etc.) . . . .

I started wondering whatever _did_ happen to, you know, the anti-trust
laws, anti-monopoly laws, anti-cartel laws, stuff like that, but then had
a "Doh" moment: Obviously, the money to be made there by politicians and
bureaucrats, just as with regard to labor and safety and environmental
laws, is from _not_ enforcing them.

I wish to protest most strongly at the scandalous
treatment this country's finest policeman, Mr James
Anderton, received on your programme last night.
To sit a fine Christian gentleman down in close
proximity to an unsavoury crowd of prostitutes was
bad enough. Even worse was to allow him to be
    humiliated intellectually by the afore-mentioned
    rabble . . . .
