I've been concerned for a while over increased belligerent influences in South and Central America. At the same time, we haven't managed to find a way to help these countries develop more stable economies and more open societies. How about we approach this problem like President Trump (WWTD?). What is it that everyone seems to want? ...to come to the United States. Trump might say... "You want to come for work? We would love to have you. The only thing is, we want people from countries like ours; countries that share our traditions of Liberty and Justice. If you vote to adopt a Democratic-Republic form of government and are willing to let us guide you on that path, we would love to create a special arrangement to facilitated work and travel arrangements between our countries." That would dovetail nicely with our trade agreements with our Southern family and further ensure security and domestic tranquility. What do you think?
"We keep couping them and installing leaders more friendly to our trade goals, why won't they just accept their client state status?" At this point, I just want to leave South/Central America alone. Let them develop however they want, we owe them that much at least
Let's help them instead of using them. I'm talking about providing Public sector consultation and training...not "installing" puppet governments. Why not let Democracy blossom in South and Central America...instead of propping up dictators and despots? I'm suggesting performance based incentives like President Trump successfully introduced in the universally lauded USMCA. As they progress, they gain increased travel and trade benefits. It's a Win-Win! ...the President Trump way! What are we doing now? We have DNC connected activist working with Socialist parties in South and Central America to organize caravans to flood our Southern border. Our compromised Justice Department lets them get away with it while refusing to secure the border. It's Nuts! The result is...the good people are leaving and the bad people are staying. How is that a good long term strategy for peace and prosperity in the region?
I’m with you if you’ll agree to shut the border completely. I mean the big 0 coming in illegally. No drugs crossing and no taxpayer money or aid going to the drug producing countries.
It's interesting to note that we had an open border until 1914...passage of the 16th Amendment (income tax). The U.S. Border Patrol was created 10 years later.
You clearly don't take our history with Latin America in to account. Learn the history first, then maybe you can offer advice and even possible solutions. Latin America has zero reasons to trust our motives based on how we have treated them in the past. Your Rah! Rah! America is quaint.
Then how about we stop treating them poorly. Democrats promote socialist governments that invite our enemies to this hemisphere and create a booming business for drug and human traffickers through our southern border. How about we focus on that? (baby steps)
Trump knows even less about our history with Latin America than even you do. But feel free to elaborate on all of his successes south of the border. That won't take long.
