Did you ever notice how whatever Trump says, it is always in absolute terms? The greatest, the biggest, the most, and then qualifies it with the context of history. Knowing absolutely nothing about history, this is kind of cute.

Speaking in absolutes couldn't be a clearing indication of authoritarianism. Absolute thinking is the tendency to think in concrete, black and white terms. "I am absolutely delighted" or "I am absolutely devastated". It reflects a tendency to categorization in thought and may be linked to certain personality traits as authoritarianism.

Is this a genuine Trump "Tweet"?

I'm afraid it is, it's still up on his page if you want to verify it. Twitter.com/realdonaldtrump

Each of those messages has a time stamp behind it...one hour, four hours, etc...... Is that accurate? If so, our president has made sixteen "tweets" in the last 24 hours?

Yeah, I think his record was just over 200 in a day back in June

I had no idea..... My daughter couldn't keep that pace with social media. And she isn't running a country.

If nothing else, I've at least appreciated having an impulsive and unfiltered look into what he's thinking. Makes it a lot easier to predict the next move. Still, I hope whoever the next president is leaves social media to the staffers.

Interestingly, I've learned that the likely outcome of delaying the election would be a Pelosi presidency. By the constitution, the presidential term ends on January 20, 2021 at noon. Trump and Pence would cease to hold office, and legally the speaker of the house becomes president (assuming she wins her election).

Since the elections are held by the states and not the federal government, there would be absolutely no legal advantage to attempting to delay the election. The rhetoric still scares me, but it's calming that there's no legal power for the federal government to delay an election.

"No, Mr. President. No. You don't have the power to move the election. Nor should it be moved. States and localities are asking you and Congress for funds so they can properly run the safe and secure elections all Americans want. Why don't you work on that?"

So people can't safely vote in the course of one day but we can send millions of kids back into schools for days, weeks, months on end and they are safe? Could this asshole be more transparently oblivious?

I'm no Donald Trump fan, but I support him wholeheartedly on the issue of mail-in-voting.

Mail-in-voting will not end well, not matter who appears to win the election. It will be contested by the loser, each and every election.

This "solution" is a complete brain fart by short-sighted bureaucrats who deny that it is planting the seeds of massive voter fraud, probably not always used, but always available for use, and always ripe for questioning.

Funny because there are several states that have mail-in voting already and have had for many years and it works just fine. But now that Trump is whining suddenly it is terrible for some reason nobody can explain.

Obviously, that's not at all what this thread is about. It's about the absurd notion that a president should or even could delay an election.

Of course when you ask these Trumpy's to provide proof that mail-in voting will lead to voter fraud, they can't provide one scrap of evidence to support their claims. We are supposed to capitulate to their stupidity because they have a feeling. I'm personally gonna need a little more than that.

“Trumpys”.... That’s cute. No, I won’t make excuses for anything that comes out of his mouth any longer. Fact is, I am broken hearted over the state of our nation. As if turmoil and pandemics aren’t enough, we simply refuse to bring ourselves together in any attempt to be Americans and resolve the issues at hand. Everyone is firmly divided among party lines. And the media is our coach telling us what we are to believe. Nobody has the cajones anymore to think for themselves. No rationalizing... And certainly no compromising..... We are a nation of finger pointers. I am right and you are wrong... And not a damned soul willing to get their hands dirty and try to fix it. This is the most unAmerican America in the history of our nation. And problem is that unless we change ourselves, it matters not who we elect. The barn door is open and there is no turning back unless we choose to be rational and reasoned people and support something larger than ourselves.

If we had the right leader to inspire us, we could come together easily. Trump is by no means that leader and never will be. Is Joe Biden that guy. Not the person I would have chosen but the guy we have. I am willing to try and heal the wounds this nation has by listening to the other side. It would have to start with an admission that what we just went through happened as a result of both delusional people and the people that didn't bother to vote. There is a lot of fault to go around but I am willing to begin the process of getting this country back on its feet once we acknowledge where we went wrong. If for no other reason than making sure we do not do it again with either a republican or a democrat.

As they say, every democracy gets the leaders they deserve. Maybe we need a better citizenry.
