The jackbooted thugs in masks and military gear are kidnapping citizens off the streets in US cities thanks to the Trump Administration. And you think this is where our country needs to be headed right now? This is the same tactics the Nazis used and now we have them in America. I never imagined that Margaret Atwood's The Handmaids Tale was a documentary but here we are. And you probably believe that Trump will leave office willingly too.

    Here's the concern:

-an unknown military group has been sent by the feds to Portland.

-they have no identifying insignia/badges and won't disclose who they are.

-they are waiting for people to walk away from protest areas and essentially kidnapping them into unmarked rental vehicles for arrest, seemingly at random.

    -here's an example video: https://mobile.twitter.com/i/status/1283436911307218948

How in the world are the citizens supposed to know they're not being kidnapped by murderers when they are being silently taken into civilian vans by people wearing stuff you can buy at any army surplus store?

This is not normal behavior in our country, and frankly it's dangerous. Trump hasn't said a thing about Portland or this situation on Twitter so far, which honestly makes me more nervous. At least there we can see what he's really thinking.

My personal suspicion is that these troops are there to antagonize the situation, driving the narrative of the violent riots that Trump is depending on to get to re-election. This is the same group that shot a peaceful protestor in the head with a rubber bullet last week.

    Seen here:

That last paragraph about the motives is just my suspicions. I want to reiterate here that everything else I posted is actually happening in Portland now.

So we don’t know who is behind this? Any outside chance that the video is staged? A person cannot be arrested with being read their rights. And that sure looked nice and easy...... There has to be more to this than meets the eye. We can’t just tie everything we see to Trump because you don’t like the man.

Ok... So now I know some of the backstory here. I went to a local news source.... Seems we aren’t talking about peaceful protesters here. We are talking about people defacing and damaging a federal courthouse. According to the local news source, damages to the tune of 50k. That ain’t chump change. Somebody does 50k of damage to your house, I bet you would want them arrested.

We know for certain they are federal troops of some kind. Most likely border patrol (technically the ocean counts as a border, so it's in their jurisdiction).

We know the mayor of Portland and Governor of Oregon are calling for the immediate removal of the federal troops, and DHS chief Chad Wolf is in Portland directing the troops.

Not illegally in unmarked vans by police forces without identification.

So now protesters exercising the First Amendment rights are terrorists. That didn't take long.

4 years later everything is still Obama's fault. LOL

First amendment doesn’t protect a person that is doing 50k worth of damage to federal courthouses.

No one is being charged with that. You can't generalize the entire protest crowd as a single individual. We are still a country of Innocent Until Proven Guilty. Stop defending unlawful behavior with unlawful detainment. You are not immune. You just aren't first.

The major courthouse incident was 2 weeks ago, the grabbing of people off the streets as they leave protests quietly started around 3 days ago. They're not grabbing the people who did the damage and even if they were, they're doing it in illegal ways.

Regardless of political views, everyone should be condemning forcing citizens into civilian cars by people in non-descript uniforms with weapons.

Oh I grant you that. I am a concealed carry guy. I assure you that were I being nabbed by strangers in faux military regalia... This old man would be defending himself.

I wasn’t aware. Just stating what I read from the local news feed. The local news feed was specific that federal agents were called in to prevent further damage to the courthouse. I don’t believe anyone can glean from the short video if this was a protestor or if this was a criminal doing damage.

Protesting is one thing. Inflicting damage is entirely another. It has been said on this forum that damage is OK. All of us old white guys are insured so we should turn our heads and overlook it. I’ll never succumb to a dangerous thought process such as that. As it stands the local news feed tells me federal agents are protecting a facility from further damage. That sounds to me anyway to be far more descriptively accurate than jack booted Trump Nazi’s reliving crystalnacht.

You may have to. The Administration is saying that they are going to take this nation-wide.

I'm not sure of your level of historical knowledge but I can tell you that no country has ever come back from secret police and black site interrogations. Neither will we.

Nixon, actually. The article is paywalled, but I'm assuming you're referring to the public safety exception.

The exception was allowed starting in 1984 (of course it was 1984 haha) after the supreme court case New York v. Quarles. The ruling went 5-4 with the group of 5 containing 3 judges nominated by Nixon, 1 nominated by Eisenhower, and 1 by JFK.

Ahhh . . . . before going there, I think there's something else everyone should be condemning, and is not.
